Craig S Posted October 3, 2007 Posted October 3, 2007 I might a private outdoor party/gig coming up where it might be fun to break out a half stack for. I already have Trace Speed Twin head with a 2x12 cab but the temptation to break out a half-stack is hard to resist. Just curious what everyone think is a good bang for the buck... I've had Carvin cabs before and liked them although the carpeted ones are horrid looking unless you're a cat. My 2x12 is an Avatar which is great but they don't make slant fronts 4X12's anymore.
DavidE Posted October 3, 2007 Posted October 3, 2007 If it's one gig, borrow one of mine. Mesa traditional size recto straight cab with V30s (if I'm not gigging with it that night) or a Peavey (feel free to take off the logo) EVH 5150 sland cab. It really does sound good!
jisham Posted October 3, 2007 Posted October 3, 2007 By another Avatar 212 and stack 'em. But, I'll second David's recommendation for the Peavey -- I'm really liking my new 6505 cab alot.
Mindseyes Posted October 4, 2007 Posted October 4, 2007 Search Craiglist...I just scored a VHT 4-12 with V30's for the bottom feed'er aproved $350!!!
Scottcrud Posted October 4, 2007 Posted October 4, 2007 You got that VHT from Beaumont right? I saw that and thought "why does every good deal come when I have no frickin' money"!!!??? That my friend was a steal!!!
Abaco Posted October 4, 2007 Posted October 4, 2007 My Avatar 4x12 with Greenbacks is quite enjoyable.
AdmiralB Posted October 4, 2007 Posted October 4, 2007 Used Marshall 1960. Shop around, you can find them locally for $400, sometimes less, and you'll always get that money back out of them.

Mindseyes Posted October 4, 2007 Posted October 4, 2007 did you buy it to "flip it"? Cause you know you can right?LOL.......nothing's permanent around here...I had been saving for a recto cab but i just couldnt pass this one up so who knows........
Steve Haynie Posted October 4, 2007 Posted October 4, 2007 In the 90's the regular Peavey 4x12's had a list price of $499 or something like that. They were loaded with Peavey's Sheffield speakers. By that time Peavey stuff was really the best bang for the buck. The grill cloth was black fabric that was close to a Marshall look, and the Peavey logo could be taken off. You could slip those under a Marshall head and they would not stand out when people saw the stack. You should be able to find something like that used for a good price.

It really does sound good!I might take you up on the 5150... If you see another good deal like that one let me know.. That's about all I would ever need as I will probably use my Switchblade combo or the 2x12 cab for most things.
mattb Posted October 5, 2007 Posted October 5, 2007 Find an old Marshall cab. I scored a Soldano 4X12 off of our own Demented for $500 loaded. Now that was a sick cab!
paults Posted October 5, 2007 Posted October 5, 2007 Craig,I have a 1980s Peavey slant 4-12 loaded with Celestions that I'd sell for $200 (or trade me stuff for it), if you want one of your own. The logo has already been removed : )Paul

I found him one on Craig's list for $125, but it's one of the Peavey ones built into a road case and I remember them being too small and sounding terrible.
silentman Posted October 5, 2007 Posted October 5, 2007 I stupidly passed on a GC blowout last year of a Johnson 4x12 cab (matched the millenium head) for $99. It had 4 V30's in it, but I dodn't have anywhere to put it at the time.
Scottcrud Posted October 5, 2007 Posted October 5, 2007 Just found a Marshall 1960A for $350, And the last 1960A I bought was $300, perfect except for a nickel sized hole in the tolex. Just gotta scour Craigslist everyday, cuz the deals are out there.
