Well Fumando Cucharachas!

Ted, when are you going to change the FS parameters to supporters only posts?

I love what you do here, man....really!

The name of this area is "For Sale, Trade, Pay it forward"

Well, since it's up for auction, then it's technically not "For Sale" then is it? And you certainly aren't "Paying it Forward".

He is, however, interested in trading it for cold hard caish.

:D

Just kidding...

I don't understand what the fuss is about.

This looks like a once-in-a-lifetime guitar for the lefties. Why jump all over the guy for bringing it to your attention?

I don't have any problems with people posting Hamers for sale here. I don't know that a third relist would generate the same bidding that was present on the first one though. Just eBay mentality-people don't seem to get as excited (more like frustrated) the second or third time out.

Total agreement with BadgerDave. I do not understand why some people are so pissed with this guy posting this particular guitar.

I have been giving this a lot of thought (yes, I know, I should have more important things to occupy my mind), and I think "Relicaster" is the unfortunate recipient of the irritation brought on by the prior thread where this guitar was posted for sale.

As we already know, the "seller" (another newbie) posted the guitar, took forever to get photos to the several interested parties (in fact, never did), and then posted that the guitar was sold to a dealer.

Enter the dealer, Relicaster, posting the guitar for sale for nearly twice what it was offered just a few days prior (the ebaY ad when first posted had a minimum bid of $2000, but was edited soon after). I can't imagine the circumstances under which he would be received well after that, but I think it's fair to point out that he's entitled to set the reserve amount in his auction to whatever he wants. It IS one of the cleanest, if not THE cleanest Sunbursts that I have ever seen, and I have yet to see another lefty Sunburst (outside of Elliot Easton's collection), so I can understand it if the leftys are a bit miffed.

I agree the HFC members benefit from anyone being able to post an item for sale, but I think it is fair to point out that a newbie posting a Hamer for sale here would be doing so in the hopes that a group of Hamer lovers would pay more than most others for it, so in those cases the benefit would be for the seller.

I have bought and sold many Hamers (and other brands of guitars) thanks to the members of this board. In all but one case I did so without hesitation, fully confident that I would receive what had been described to me when purchasing, and likewise typically send a guitar that I have sold to the buyer without waiting to receive payment.

Why? Because I know those of you that have been here a while will continue to be here and are accountable. Given the history on this board of the airing of dirty laundry, imagine what would befall a regular setting out to stiff another on this board. Without any history here, when a "stranger" shows up and posts something for sale, they should expect to meet with some hesitation.

So, in my un-Solomon-like way I can see both sides of the argument, but I still feel that WE as a community are protected when some accountability is set in place for one to post an item for sale, and therefore should only be permitted by Supporters.

Of course, this being Ted's board and not "Kizanski's", you can just forget you read all of what I wrote above, because it has no bearing on anything.

I only set the opening amount at 2,000 PREVENT bids until I had the pics all in order. I did this for a tele pickup too @ 500. When I got all the pics up (around 2 am) I reset the tele pickup at 9.99 and the Hamer with a 1600 reserve. I would generally not raise an eyebrow about listing this at 10 bucks/ no reserve.

I truly believe that no matter how many-hardcore-Hamers-lovers are here (or how hardcore the ones that ARE here), there are also many more that are NOT here. maybe they're working late on Wall St. Maybe they don't read english? Maybe there is a lefty Doctor in Switzerland just DYING to have a very nicely photographed and described 80's American guitar and doesn't even care about the name Hamer?

I never got ONE offer or comment or even a compliment about this guitar from anyone on this page in the 12 odd days that I have had it on auction. So I can only assume that nobody here really cares about the GUITAR, only that they care that I came here to tell you all about it. I saw the post where people wanted pics....so I showed them.

So I asked people to EMAIL ME WITH YOUR OFFER.

EDITED TO AD:

I got not ONE email about it.

NOT ONE. :D

So don't complain and badmouth me for not giving the folks here a chance first.

While I still feel that only Supporting Members ought to be allowed to post items for sale on this forum, I hope you took away from what I wrote as complimenting the guitar (I did on several occasions in this thread and elsewhere) and that I was giving you the benefit of the doubt.

Again, other than some bad timing, I don't feel that you did anything "wrong." I think that you just walked into a bee's nest concerning this particular guitar.

Hell! I want it and I'm a righty!

This subject should be up to Ted. Every time I post a guitar for sale here everyone has to chime in their oppinions on how much it should cost etc etc. If this is a For sale section people should not be butting in to other peoples business. That is very rude and discourages new users from posting. I can see now why allot of long time Hamer supporters don't post here anymore. There is a small group of people who act like they own this board and make everyone else leave with the immature comments in every thread. Why should anybody care what anyone else sells a guitar for. Get a life!

Thanks, Kiz for putting it down so well. We must have the same Detector.... you captured my exact feelings regarding this post. I don't think anyone was jumped or uncivil. All my questions were answered and I wish the best of luck to Relicaster, his beautiful guitar and it's future owner. Please stick around and witness the madness.

Buck, as far as this situation was concerned, it was addressed by Ted on the main board. As for posting a forsale thread, some add'l comments may be appropriate, some may not. Opinion, humor, insight and fact are interpreted differently by all but it's a public board so you can expect public comments. If somebody gets his knickers in a wad because of the obligitory $350.00 offer, they need to get a life. BTW, more than once a certain supporter (who no longer post here) gave sour, less than gracious comments regarding my amp questions based solely on my taste in music. Bottom line, nobody here is an saint....'cept for Buzzy. I don't think he could piss anyone off

Have a nice weekend.

Kiz said it best so far.

Relicaster,

Anyone who knows me knows I am the most likely person on this board to buy this guitar. I was serious in my interest when Joe Gagan posted it first for $1000, and would have bought it had he posted the pictures.

But then a bunch of weird stuff happened:

He sold it to you presumably for the $1000 price he had offered to us. Then you turned around and tried to flip it on Ebay with a huge markup. I was still interested and watched the auctions. Your reserve of $1600 was met, but you pulled the auction early. Then the relist reached $1500 but that didn't hit the reserve. Now you come here asking for offers?

This is not the behavior of a serious seller, it's the behavior of someone who is playing games. I assume from the auction results that $1500-$1600 is not enough for you. I can't see why because that is a 50% - 60% profit based on nothing but arbitrage, with very little effort expended on your part. It looks like you're trying to squeak the maximum possible profit out of this, and I really don't have time for games.

You seem to think a lefty is automatically worth more than a comparable righty due to the rareness of the lefty. Perhaps you have limited experience in the lefty market. There is a lower supply, but also a lower demand, so prices are not necessarily any different for lefties. Sometimes yes and sometimes no, but in my experience lefties pretty much even out at *slightly* higher than righties, maybe 5%-10%. This is merely a parallel that reflects the higher prices of NEW lefties.

Now, due to the uncertainty with Hamer neck sizes, especially in the early 80's which tended to be thin, I would rather see a guitar like this in person, before I commit to a purchase. I may collect lefty Hamers, but they are ALL players, and I won't buy one that's uncomfortable for me. So I check your Ebay listing to see if you are located within driving distance of me (I live in Indianapolis), and your location is listed as "Online, USA", or something like that. Again, more games. And you have a hotmail address...

So, if you are a serious seller, why not just post a price you are willing to accept? If someone buys it, great. If not, lower the price a bit.

Hmmm....sounds reasonable to me...lets see what he does.

No actually I spent some serious time cleaning that guitar. I too always want as much information about the neck as possible, so I will describe this as best as possible and have thickness measurements every 2 frets.

BTW, I AM a lefty but play righty. I am also left footed and left eyed. Great for Flatrack (counter clockwise oval) motorcycle racing but ever try finding a LEFT EYED video camera!

Thats very useful information, I will have to remember that if I ever get on Jeopardy..

Now...how much do you want for the f*cking guitar. Nobody here could give a flying f*ck about the rest of this bullsh*t.
