dboy66 Posted November 15, 2007 Posted November 15, 2007 I'm interested to see if the would be any offers for my '82 gold special, sustain block version II, all original except 1 volume knob (with correct replacement), good shape, great player, including case and likely some cash; for your mid 90's or later studio/custom. Prefer a trade through the HFC Family who have done right by me in the past ( thanks again pirate flynn for the fantastic guitar!) I would consider a straight up sale, but prefer an equitable trade. pics will likely be available tomorrow, and via your email addy as i cant seem to figure out how to post them here. Thanks in advance, dboy
BCR Greg Posted November 16, 2007 Posted November 16, 2007 Pics would be nice. Original Gold finish or respray?
dboy66 Posted November 16, 2007 Author Posted November 16, 2007 Pics would be nice. Original Gold finish or respray?thanks for your interest. yeah, all original, except one volume knob (not pot). the finish is the standard FM type - gold in color. i would love to post pics, but as i mentioned, i just cant figure out how. it seems that they are all too large or something. some type of format problem? regardless, if you are truly interested, i would happily send some pics to your pm.cheers,dr
dboy66 Posted November 17, 2007 Author Posted November 17, 2007 PICS NOW AVAILABLE!!! (i think) if this works, thank you cmatthes. now, about that avatar..........
Jim Browne Posted November 17, 2007 Posted November 17, 2007 I've been visiting this forum for a while, but your guitar made me join! Those Hamer Specials were the first high end guitars that I ever played. When I was about thirteen (1981), my local (tiny) dealer carried those and Deans. The owner was eighteen and his father bought him the store! Guess how long that store lasted? Anyway, I can still vividly recall the smell of three Specials, freshly delivered. I don't know if it was the lacquer or the glue used in the cases-probably the finish. I've got to finally get one! Please let me know if you want to sell it outright.

Please let me know if you want to sell it outright. There was a little shop in a strip mall near where I grew up (Delaware) around that same time ('79-'81) that also carried Deans and Hamers - never saw a Sunburst nor a Standard in there, but they always had a Special or two.And many Deans...It also closed up after a few years.
Jim Browne Posted November 17, 2007 Posted November 17, 2007 The former owner now has a real estate office in the same building.I'm going to stop by there next week, if possible.I harbor this fantasy that he's still sitting on some unsold stock, but I highly doubt it.His personal guitar was a tobacco-type 'burst Special-maybe he's still got it. Unfortunately, the only Hamer that I could afford at that time was a checkerboard strap, which I've still got. Excuse my unimaginative username, by the way, I confused my login name with my real-highly unoriginal- given name. Junior, no less! P.S. Thank You Kizanski for enabling me.
Jim Browne Posted November 18, 2007 Posted November 18, 2007 Believe it or not, the above photo is not me.I'm the less- coordinated Jim Brown(e). My body is devoid of muscle tone and my skin tone is practically without pigment. At least I've got the pretentious "e" at the end of ye olde name.Otherwise, yeah, we're the same guy. Also, to try and establish some Hamer cred without yet owning one: My first-ever concert was a Hamer-laden event- the original lineup of The Pretenders in Central Park, August 1980. The late, great James Honeyman-Scott used Specials and, maybe, a Sunburst. No Prototype yet and Pete Farndon hadn't started using his Nick Lowe-style Special bass or the Cruise Bass (not yet in existence?). Okay, weak attempt on my part, but what a concert!
cmatthes Posted November 18, 2007 Posted November 18, 2007 One of my top favorite guitarists of all time - never got to see him play live. Buy this Special and relive the glory, man!
dboy66 Posted November 18, 2007 Author Posted November 18, 2007 wow! what a difference a few photos make. thanks again to the HFC staff for the help in posting pics. also, thanks for all the interest and inquiries. for now, i would like to see if i can generate any serious trade offers, so that i'm not left empty handed. i will certainly keep all your offers in mind. Thanks! dboy
