i would be interested in buying a hamer usa cali like the one currently listed on e-bay or one similar. thanks everyone, nick

i'm serious, if i am not fortunate on this site i will bid on the one one on e-bay but within reason(i'll try). but since i am not very knowledgeable on these types of hamers, can anyone advise me to as what would be a reasonable ceiling there. keeping in mind that i suffer from "gas" and have trouble at times like these with self-discipline. thanks, nick.

If your reffering to the flame maple bodied Cali on Ebay...I'm bettin it's gonna hit around the $1000.00-$1200.00 ish range! Those are my least favorite Cali's cuz....they may look real good but damn!...talk about a super tight unforgiving lifeless tone due to the granite hard maple body along with the equally hard ebony neck but...that just me talkin... :D

i did not know the whole body was solid maple, i thought it was maple over mahogany. thanks for the warning. nick

with still 4 days or so remaining my bid of $850.00 has already been eclipsed. i may have to let it go as some of these bidders are determined. nick

(sigh) :D

salmon blush..........................

someday, I just have to wait for shredders to fall back out of fashion(I'll be like 83 or so, and all the kids will say "damn that's a awesome guitar, who's the old guy?")

I'll echoplex kurt...I know every guitar is a different tonal story, but the solid maple planks w/ebony sure sounds like a textbook recipe for an electric banjo.

I have a Mahogany Cali and a Maple one. They both sound different but, equally good. For those that prefer a punchier tone that cuts through the mix well, Maple is not such a bad thing.

Me and John (ZR) played several guitars through our different amps a while back.

Surprisingly his Maple Chap and my Maple Cali were among the best sounding.

The maple Calis are not the same maple species that most of us are used to in guitar building (the rock maple, etc stuff that is literally like rock). The western broadleaf that Hamer used is a pretty decent tonewood and a bit softer than rock maple. I've owned two flamebodied Calis and neither were icepicky in the slightest.

This one is available for $1,200 + shipping.

Not at all "ice-picky". Focused, clear and hellacious ringing sustain.

Excellent condition, 100% original, OHSC. E-mail me if interested.

Wow-that's a beauty and that price is nice for where these have been headed. Don't see that many sunburst ones.

That's good info and provides a logical explanation as to why the tone quality is different than most would expect. It also explains why the body seems to be susceptible to small indentions.

Nice Californian, Badger !!

I just joined the board 'cos I'm restoring a Phantom with a snapped headstock...

I need to get all the parts, too..so it may not be worth it..

I saw a nice black one on here that was going for $550

Speaking of Californians...a guy offered me a pink one for $400 Australian (US$300)

I should see if I've still got his number and chase it up...

I've already got one pink strat that I want to refinish...yuk

Cheers

Here's a pic of a rare guitar I own...the first Parker Fly !!
