58clipper Posted January 15, 2008 Posted January 15, 2008 Hey-I've been enjoying reading the Hamer Fan Club Messageboard for the past year. I'm really impressed with the content and the sense of community that is displayed by the members. I'm looking to finally purchase my first Hamer (!) and I've think that it's going to be a Monaco. I need a semi-hollow body, a bigsby and a 25.5" scale to get me going, so I'm particularily interested in the Monaco or the Monaco III. I'm partial to P-90s but not necessarily three pickups; has anyone ever seen a Monaco with two P-90s? I mostly play with a big, clean neck pick-up sound in a Bill Frisell meets Tom Waits kind of way. I'd appreciate any info Monaco owners would like to share with me (opinions, pics, etc). Thanks much-DW Royek
serial Posted January 15, 2008 Posted January 15, 2008 Well, to start off with-WELCOME!Secondly, you seem to have rather impeccable taste...I'm a big fan of the MIII and while I haven't seen a 2 pickup model yet, my guess is that it wouldn't be a big deal to custom order and it would be a very cool choice (hmm, goldtop?!). I'm sure you'll get flooded with some great Monaco pics shortly. My personal fave is a particular Cadillac Green one...
Feynman Posted January 15, 2008 Posted January 15, 2008 Welcome! Good taste, indeed. That's the way to dive into a Hamer...
Guest pirateflynn Posted January 15, 2008 Posted January 15, 2008 The FilterTrons could be a cool way to go, too.Welcome!
GusS Posted January 15, 2008 Posted January 15, 2008 Filtertrons are way cool but they're still humbuckers. Somebody has to pull a Monaco or Newport with Dearmond Dynasonics, top mounted and routed with small round holes for the wires
sonic1974 Posted January 15, 2008 Posted January 15, 2008 Welcome! Here's my personal M3: That is $#$% hot! Love the bridge on that. Super classy look, it manages to look refined and rockin' at the same time.
