MTM105 Posted January 25, 2008 Posted January 25, 2008 I don't know why Enlighened Rogues ended up butchered during production, thus lowering it's costs. There is great material on that album. NYC's rock station (102 FM?) used to play Pegasus religiously 2-3 times a day. It seems to have been over produced and didn't sell well. But there are many more albums that ended up that way, and I could never figure it out. They had the slice on the side somewhere, disfiguring it and lowering its cost.
MCChris Posted January 25, 2008 Posted January 25, 2008 The album Motley Crue did with Corabi is their best. The album VH did with Cherone is not LOL! Actually, I've never heard it other than the first radio single. I should pick it up, as I'm a fan of oddball band lineups and offshoots of other bands. Shouldn't require much money on my part lol.
Willie G. Moseley Posted January 25, 2008 Posted January 25, 2008 By "discount albums" are you talking about ones that ended up in the cutout bin (regardless of audio format)? Some I discovered over the decades include:INTO THE RAINBOW: Max Lasser's Ark---Lasser was a peer of New Age electro-harpist Andreas Vollenweider, and it showed, but this is great light melodic guitar stuff. Better than subsequent Lasser albums like TIMEJUMP.EYEWITNESS LIVE: Steve Khan on guitar, Anthony Jackson on contrabass. 'Nuff said.THE INTRODUCTION: Steve Morse BandAll of the preceding were on cassette for about $1.99 each. More later, once I check some old comments written down somewhere (i.e., not in the word processor).
ZR Posted January 25, 2008 Posted January 25, 2008 When Cherone teamed up with VH I thought this might be something. I like Extreme, he already sang w/ a guitarist that played in a similar style to EVH, sang well, and seemed to write some good stuff. Well, I thought it sucked. I sold it quick which I usually don't do. I even saw them on that tour...well a camera guy got me in for free! I wonder what it would sound like to me today? In a few weeks when I see DLR VH I will complete the trifecta of seeing all 3 VH singers in concerts...whatever that's worth!
MTM105 Posted January 25, 2008 Author Posted January 25, 2008 By "discount albums" are you talking about ones that ended up in the cutout bin (regardless of audio format)? Yes. those formats.I believe YES had at least one or two. Going For the One and or Relayer. The later is/was quite a snoozefest.I promised myself when younger, no matter how band the bands get in the future, I will remain loyal and purchase their records under any circumstance.Well, that hasn't been the case. I will not purchase anything unless I am sure that it is Platinum. It's been about 10 years. I'm still buying metal compilations and music from the 60's.
Jason01 Posted January 25, 2008 Posted January 25, 2008 I think I found both Badlands CDs in the cutout bin, those were fantastic.
alantigold Posted January 25, 2008 Posted January 25, 2008 "The Day The Earth Caught Fire" by City Boy. Twenty-five cents. I've burned through a couple cassettes of it. Paid a buck each for the cassettes, but my original vinyl was a quarter."Derek And Clive" by Peter O'Toole and Dudley Moore. Found it on cassette for $1.99. It got stolen from a co-workers office when someone stole his radio. Ended up getting another copy at Sam The Record Man's in Toronto for $4.Alan
geoff_hartwell Posted January 28, 2008 Posted January 28, 2008 Dogman by King's X came out when I was going into college and showed up in the cutout bin almost immediately at the Oneonta strip-mall record store. (There's still a strip mall there, but no more record store...Thank you WalMart...) I got all four covers on CD (blue, green, red and yellow) from that bin. Go listen to Dogman now!
tgoss Posted January 29, 2008 Posted January 29, 2008 City Boy? Gosh, I didn't think too many people ever heard of them. How about Charlie?
mark_tampa Posted January 29, 2008 Posted January 29, 2008 Albert Lee - HidingFound in the 99cent bin at Tower years ago.Still have that LP, don't have a turntable anymore but bought the reissue on CD.
MTM105 Posted January 29, 2008 Author Posted January 29, 2008 bump. I thought that this thread was going to die like those great albums did, tossed aside in the discount section. I think Lynyrd Skynyrd Gimme Back my Bullets was one of those victims.
