Need help identifying this old amp

First time trying to link Photobucket photos...I'll work on this till it works!

Bought this old (50s?) amp last week...no markings whatsoever EXCEPT an Eminence speaker code (67 7438). No tube chart, no shadows of an old logo that came off, no mfg. info.

The lower right hand corner of the control panel is stamped C-3.

Any ideas? I posted this in my local Craigslist and got 5 totally different answers from 5 very confident 'experts.'

Maybe the great minds of the HFC will know....

Forgot to mention: Two 6V6 power tubes, 5Y3GT and three 12ax7-types...

Mirrored chrome chassis inside. Have not pulled it open to see transformer date codes but they are hidden from view unless I do.

It sure looks like a Magnatone or some variation. The giveaway for me is the unique "swirly dripping" on the grill and tolex. Try surfing thru http://www.vibroworld.com, The Unofficial Magnatone website. Also try posting your pics on the Magnatone Forum http://groups.yahoo.com/subscribe/magnatone-valco.

My unsolicited advice: Don't sell it to the first offer that comes out of the blue. Those Magnatone amps can fetch some surprising $$$$.

Best of luck.

My best guess would be an Airline amp sold by Wards. It has the Airline color scheme. The Airline amps were made by Valco or Danolectro. I would guess it is from the very early 60's. I looked around and couldn't find anything to confirm it, just my best guess.

Check with Alpep. He's probably seen one like that before.

I don't know what it is but I like it!

Thanks, guys. It has the coolest 50s Deluxe tone, but creamier. The 6v6s break up about 4 and the amp just gets fatter from there to 10. Vibrato works great too.

Anyone have an old vintage one-button 1/4" footswitch to match?

That's similar in some ways to my Hilgen, whatever it is it looks great! How big is the speaker? I'd say 60's instead of '50s, just my gut feel. I doubt it's a Magnatone, most I've seen have the logo pretty clearly written. Probably just some cool low-production amp that's way too rare to have any large dollar value.

Hilgen for comparison:

The seller told me it was once one of Eric Johnson's amps and had been serviced by his tech. I'm trying to reach them to see what they know.

The speaker looks like a 12". The date code leans to 50s though, right?

btw..nice kitty.
