Nice. I find the top to be similar to many early 80's Cherry Sunburst Ibanez pointies. The pickups help too.

These are great guitars B) I would have pulled the trigger, but the knob placement is a little off kilter for me. Great players.

Almost all flame tops you see on MIJ guitars is sycamore. My guess is that sycamore is more readily available than maple in Japan.

All the early Robins (c.1982) were made by Tokai and had sycamore tops.

If I'm not mistaken, sycamore and maple are from the same family of wood species.

Hmm, that's the sort of thing you'd expect a guy with a Master's degree in Botany to know. But plant taxonomy was never my strong suit. Come to think of it, neither was Botany B)
