Zoner Posted August 4, 2008 Posted August 4, 2008 http://used.guitarcenter.com/usedgear/deta...istId=105009088I have only seen these beauties with the red (Spruce?) top, but this looks HOT! I know it is GC, but it is very cool looking. Is the price in the park for one of these or the usual "GC" inflated number? Just curious. Z
HamerHokie Posted August 4, 2008 Posted August 4, 2008 Thanks! Can't place that finish, anyone know what it is?
anotherfreak Posted August 5, 2008 Posted August 5, 2008 Looks like their "tortose" or an incarnation of "brown sugar"
cmatthes Posted August 5, 2008 Posted August 5, 2008 It's Tortoise. And a freakin' steal at that price. That's a total custom piece going for less than a straight catalog model. Very nice.

Interesting. I wonder how the P-90s sound with the maple and scale length - I'm thinkin' "bright." Here is what Tortoise looks like, from Willcutt's inventory:
Zoner Posted August 5, 2008 Author Posted August 5, 2008 Should we take up a collection and "liberate" it from the Evil Empire? Z
santellavision Posted August 5, 2008 Posted August 5, 2008 The Tonequest report did an article on one and they said it sounded like a Strat on Steroids. I like that!!!
Bloozguy Posted August 5, 2008 Posted August 5, 2008 My plain old red spruce MIII has plenty of snap and brightness...I'll bet the maple tops are hot!The price is a steal...someone should liberate that from the fools at GC

cmatthes Posted August 5, 2008 Posted August 5, 2008 I can't see the picture Actually, on this monitor it looks more Brown Sugar than Tort...
santellavision Posted August 5, 2008 Posted August 5, 2008 I was just about to pull the trigger on it, called GC and... Damn, it's gone. Poof. Sold.
Sam Posted August 6, 2008 Posted August 6, 2008 What a price! Some of the quilt III's had Korina backs- wonder if the one above did. Private Reserve (Musician's Friend) sold this one discounted for $3799:
threehole Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 I'll admit it, it was me. I couldn't stand it, been looking for an M3 for a while, wanted a bigsby and a unique finish, and there it was. My first quilt top. In the highly unlikely event I do not bond with it, I will let you all know. I also have an original HFC run artist korina w/3 p90s and the always controversial p90 duotone. 8 p90s, 3 hamers, 1 happy guy.
Zoner Posted August 7, 2008 Author Posted August 7, 2008 Liberated!!!! Good work and congrats. That thing is seriously hot looking, and I'll bet it doesn't suck as a player either. Z
HamerHokie Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 Great score. Give us a tone report once you get it, eh?
threehole Posted August 13, 2008 Posted August 13, 2008 Great score. Give us a tone report once you get it, eh?Got it yesterday, will check it out through an amp today. So far, so good. Beautiful guitar, loud acoustically, great neck. It looks brand new, all the case candy, warranty card, etc. The color on the card looks like "TT", whatever that is. The binding is very intricate, tortoise outside, then a thin white stripe and a thin black stripe. Gorgeous, the Hamer logo is pearl, etc.http://www.mediafire.com/imageview.php?qui...cla&thumb=4http://www.mediafire.com/imageview.php?qui...4un&thumb=4
