zzdat Posted March 5, 2005 Posted March 5, 2005 I finally got tired of renting and bumming PA gear. This is what I have comming soon. 2 TXD 251 2 -15 Turbosound subs, 4 ohm 600w RMS ,1200w peak 4 TXD 121 horn and 12 main cabs, 8 ohms 300w RMS, 600w peak I got these because first of all they just sound right. The subs can be stood up on end to use with one top cab on a pole at smaller places, then the subs can be laid on their side and two of the top cabs can be mounted on one sub side by side with poles for an array. Mixer is a 16 channel Allen & Heath Mix Wizard 3. Main processor is a DBX Drive Rack, along with a Samson Quad gate, and an extra stereo 1/3 octave eq for on the fly tweaks. OK - I'm going crazy looking at power amps. I need two amps that will do close to 600w RMS at 8ohms and close to 1200w at 4 ohms. The trick is they need to be in the 600 to 700 dollar range and sound good. I've been looking at the Carvin DCM 2500 and 2750, they look good for the bucks. The Yamaha PS5000 and 7000 look good for the money. What else is out there that sounds for the kind of money that I want to spend. BTW, Gear heads looking for PA and Recording gear should really check out Muzeekworld.com for killer prices on gear. There in Huntinton Beach CA. Cool Beans Gene
Mobster Posted March 5, 2005 Posted March 5, 2005 Take a good look at the Peavey CS Series poweramps.
tomteriffic Posted March 5, 2005 Posted March 5, 2005 Take a good look at the QSC PL series. Extremely powerful for their size and weight, and they put out a lot of watts for an ampere of juice out of the wall. Very reliable and conservatively rated. I believe there's one right at your power point/price range. PL3002 maybe?
kurtsstuff Posted March 5, 2005 Posted March 5, 2005 Crest or Crown are the only way to go...QSC is also a good choice!!
unfun 75 Posted March 5, 2005 Posted March 5, 2005 QSC has a rebate deal going on through April. You might can score one for a good price.
Guest galejt Posted March 5, 2005 Posted March 5, 2005 Try this guy. Don't talk politics with him. "No amps for you!" could result. He regularly sends out a catalog by email but he isn't listing the prices anymore. As I remember it, they were pretty good on QSC amps.Email me and I'll forward you the latest data he sent me.JImLord ValveVISIT LORD VALVE'S WEBSITE: http://www.nebsnow.com/LordValve Specializing in top quality HAND SELECTED NOS and current-production vacuum tubes for guitar and bass amps. tafkathundernotes Posted March 5, 2005 Posted March 5, 2005 I prefer the Carvins. Usually there are great deals on ebay for the DCM series. Get the newer models with the Speakon connectors. These later models are built differently (and a little more reliably) than some of the older ones.
