bubs_42 Posted November 23, 2008 Posted November 23, 2008 Well to many things coming in and I now have 3 Sunburst. I just prefer the 79 Necks better so I'm letting my 81 go. I purchased her off of Ebay from a Music Store it Texas that had it come in on trade. So I'll start from the top.. The Top has dings and checks in it. The Lower horn has some chips (Pictured) but the binding is not damaged and not coming loose anywhere on the guitar. The Top is really faded and has a Honey/Orange Hue to it. The Sustainblock is in great shape. The Neck is original but the bridge is not. It is although a Dimarzio PAF, BlackLead, Sqaure Legs, and reads exactly what my 79's Original Bridge Reads. The pickups are a great match together and sound good in all positions. It had to be changed out early in it's life because the wear on it matches the rest of the guitar. Foam is still under the Pickups. Pickup Rings are original as well. Pots and knobs are intacted. All electronics are functional and have no issues. The back of the guitar has a fair amount of wear. No major areas with large amounts of paint missing. Just finish checking, beltbuckle dings ( not really drag marks ). The joint is VERY CLEAN, no paint checks or seperations in the joint. The back of the neck is has some chips but is in good shape and very comfortable. Rear of the headstock is not broken or have been repaired. the Tuners were replaced as some point but the originals were put back on before I recieved the guitar. At one time the guitar must have taken a shot at the Low I tuner. It pulled the screw out. (PICTURED) but the tuner is not damaged. The washers under the tuners were not put back on the guitar so there is a ring around the front on the tuners (also Pictured). There is chipping above the Serial #(Pictured) and the guitar spent alot of time in a guitar stand. The underside of the headstock has the paint missing. Frets and Fretboard.. In great shape , Just oiled the board and the guitar was set up in Texas with 10 before it came to me. Frets are superclean and the guitars playing is flawless. The neck for you guys out there its not Shredder Skinny but feels more like a Strat neck. Narrower at the nut than a 79 the extra relief in the lower horn is very nice and I wish the 79's had that. Well that's all I got, If you have any questions PM or Email Me I'm alway's here. $925 Shipped and paypal'd
velorush Posted November 23, 2008 Posted November 23, 2008 I read Serial's comments about how the '79 bodies were roughed out by someone [as I understand it] out of the shop, but could you tell me how the '79 necks differ?
bubs_42 Posted November 23, 2008 Author Posted November 23, 2008 I read Serial's comments about how the '79 bodies were roughed out by someone [as I understand it] out of the shop, but could you tell me how the '79 necks differ? Well the guitars when through a transformation and there is plenty of info here.. http://www.hamerfanclub.com/sunburst.html But as for you question they went to a narrower string spacing in 81 so the neck width at the nut is a little narrower as well as the Sustainblock. The neck is not flat like the Later 89-92 Sunburst. The 81 is is just slimmer feeling. They play great and the extra out of the lower horn makes it a breeze to get to all of the frets.
bizzwriter Posted November 25, 2008 Posted November 25, 2008 Sweet looking axe -- love that blond top! My old '82 Sunburst had I think the same neck and it was honestly the most comfortable neck I've played on ANY guitar. That includes multiple Les Pauls, Teles, Strats, etc., etc.
bubs_42 Posted November 27, 2008 Author Posted November 27, 2008 Moved her to Ebay fella's. The guitar is a player but It plays perfect. Light, tonefull, great pickup match. No pedal needed with this one. Flip it to the neck for a lead and go for it.
