BadgerDave Posted June 21, 2005 Posted June 21, 2005 I had a gift certificate to burn so I was looking for a few new CD's on Amazon last week. I'd been hearing about Johnny A so I picked up his latest.DAMN!It's been a long time since I was this impressed by a guitar player. If someone would have described this style to me beforehand, I probably wouldn't have bought the CD. I'm glad I went in blind 'cause this disc has been in constant play since it arrived. Just amazing.Johnny A is the anti-John Mayer.
marcus2 Posted June 21, 2005 Posted June 21, 2005 Dave,Yup. The 2 CDs on Favored Nations are great! Too bad he doesn't tour in our part of the country. Best I can get here in GB tonight is Def Leppard.Marc
Guest teefus2 Posted June 21, 2005 Posted June 21, 2005 Johnny A is the anti-John Mayer. dude! you need to tone down your anti-mayerite rhetoric or move it to the outer circle. :-)the first johnny a disc has some great stuff on it too. he definitely makes his cover tunes his own.
mario Posted June 21, 2005 Posted June 21, 2005 Glad to see other people getting to know this amazing guitarist. Check him out live if you can.
guitfiddler Posted June 21, 2005 Posted June 21, 2005 Saw him in concert a couple months ago at the Keswick..... he opened for some elderly black chap named Riley B. King. One of the best concerts I've been to in probably 5 years.

Best I can get here in GB tonight is Def Leppard.Marc I saw Johnny A. in Madison, WI last year and he rocked (don't have any of his albums yet though). By the way, I also like John Mayer. Don't hate the playa, hate the game!-Austin
Guest Mike Lee Posted June 22, 2005 Posted June 22, 2005 To cover of "The Wind Cries Mary" on the 2nd album is beyond cool. Johnny comes to Indy frequently, but the timing has always interfered with work. Now that I'm the boss, maybe I should just take the day off and delegate whatever needs to get done...
ArnieZ Posted June 22, 2005 Posted June 22, 2005 Saw Johhny in a small 80 seat cafe in Bridgeport Ct about 2 mos. ago. Best $20 I spent in a very long time, unique style and very musical. Very unique tone as well!ArnieZ
