mhmike Posted December 9, 2008 Posted December 9, 2008 Please disregard this post for now - I just bought a guitar and I need to take it out on a trial period (aka, I now have a lack of disposable funds.) Thanks. I'm looking for a double-cut, solid body, hard-tail, double humbucker Hamer in tobacco burst, preferably a mahogany body with a flame maple top (though most Hamers are just this, I like the look of a tobacco burst on a flamed top rather than on straight mahogany). I'm not in a huge hurry, just looking for a used, USA Hamer in my favorite scheme. I'd prefer: - a wrap tail (ordered new/unmolested, no hole filling) if possible - flat top/arched top doesn't matter, but a - most importantly may be the neck - if you've got anything close to that chunky, roundish, vintage-ish T-51 style neck, that's what I need. My '98 Phantom Custom neck doesn't work for me just right, and my '79 Sunburst's feels a tad skinny I'm looking to keep it around/under $1k or so. I'm looking for something in a good to pretty good condition, but I'm not picky about light wear and tear. This price would rule out most/all 00's, though. If necessary, I'm willing to trade my beat up (ahem, "player") 1979 Sunburst (bought from Peter Fung aka Hamstd, who I'm sure most of you know), or my 1998 Phantom Custom (bought from user seeker, modded for a P90 in the neck, rotary replaced by two toggles). I won't have either back in my hands until 2009 (hence the no rush clause). Here are some pics of other guitars (disclaimer: these are not my guitars or my pictures, both are owned by their respective owners, all rights are theirs). These are the types of tobacco bursts I'm looking for. Hamer seems to do them right regardless; no red, please. One was sold here recently (and I missed it!), one might have been from "what finishes you love/hate), can't remember: Thanks everyone. PMs, replies and emails are all fine.
bubs_42 Posted December 9, 2008 Posted December 9, 2008 Man that second one looks amazing.. Bought that one in your range but it's not going anywhere.. Good luck to ya.
Feynman Posted December 9, 2008 Posted December 9, 2008 I used to own this one, and it remains at a friend's house, local to me. It would be out of your stated range, but it is a beauty. I think he might be open to selling it, as he mentioned that he hasn't picked up a guitar in a year or so... Ultimate grade tobacco burst top - fantastic all the way around.

C'mon now, can't ya cut me a break after that scouting report I did for you on the Daytona I used to own this one, and it remains at a friend's house, local to me. Ultimate grade tobacco burst top - fantastic all the way around. Yeah, the ultimate top is going to put that way out of my range. I'm flexible a few hundred or so for something nice (which that is...DANG man!), but not an ultimate! Not a fan of the victory inlays or lightish burst (would like something between the first pic I posted, and what bubs has), so I won't shed too too many tears
Feynman Posted December 10, 2008 Posted December 10, 2008 Not flamed maple, and not humbuckers, but looks pretty cool to me: http://cgi.ebay.com/1992-Hamer-USA-Special...%3A1%7C294%3A50

Sold for $575! Friggin' steal. I really like the back of the neck as far as looks go: Too bad it didn't have buckers
thecajunboy Posted December 11, 2008 Posted December 11, 2008 I'd offer this one up for the right price, but it would be way above your budget.
Feynman Posted December 11, 2008 Posted December 11, 2008 I'd offer this one up for the right price...Bullshit!

bubs_42 Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 Lost track of this thread.. DAMN.. Checks in the mail.. Back on track, here is a nice one. Little on the high side or the seller is well high. Still a nice looking guitar.

Shame it is what it is, looks good. Seems a little on the high side, though. It is in very good condition, but don't those usually go for $900-1000? Or is that just for Mirage I's?Also need to say that if I sell both the Sunburst and the Phantom Custom (Standard likely, Phantom Custom a maybe trending toward yes...) I'll be ready to jump into a slightly higher price bracket, probably $1,500 or so.
mhmike Posted December 21, 2008 Author Posted December 21, 2008 I saw it. Why can't I just have that, but with humbuckers?!
bubs_42 Posted December 21, 2008 Posted December 21, 2008 I saw it. Why can't I just have that, but with humbuckers?! Dimarzio make P90 style humbuckers, matter of fact so does Seymour Duncan(Special order)

Dimarzio make P90 style humbuckers, matter of fact so does Seymour Duncan(Special order) They do, but unfortunately they have no sound clips. I'm still not sold on humbuckers in single coil packages, as well. A Chopper will never be a Super Distortion, stacked coils and blades and all. I just can't feel safe on spending money and not liking it when I know I need humbuckers (unfortunately).

I just can't feel safe on spending money and not liking it when I know I need humbuckers (unfortunately). But they are actually, the real thing just stuck in a Holder that looks like a P90... they are the same pickups. Not trying to push you that way, just letting you know. I'd offer this one up for the right price, but it would be way above your budget. I'm going to call Double B.S. on that... This is why I have never doe a C/O. mhmike Posted December 25, 2008 Author Posted December 25, 2008 Special on ebay, with P90's... I've been thinking. I love neck P90s. I rarely use the humbucker in the neck, unless I can split it. DiMarzio states that the Super Distortion P90 is the same as the humbucker version, but with a smoother treble response (not a bad thing with my amp). I got to play my Phantom A5 with a Super Distortion through the Splawn for the last couple of days - dear sweet baby meatloaf It sounds heavenly. I can do without a maple cap... I'm going to try and grab the Special. Are these mid-ish 90's Hamers beefy necked? Or at least not as thin as the early 90's Sunbursts? Man, I hope so... Throw some amber speed or bell knobs on that baby and ready to rock! Assuage me on this bubs! I need ya now more than ever!!
