eminor Posted December 24, 2008 Posted December 24, 2008 Two sweet guitars for sale, folks. 1) Vector no longer for sale. 2) 2008 Rice Blackguard Esquire - a bargain at $1100 shipped/add 2% for Paypal Comes with standard 2-pickup tele lackquered fiberboard pickguard as well. Light, custom made by Rice Custom Guitars, only the best went into this. This is the second reincarnation. First one had a 'stage accident' that damaged the neck beyond repair. Guitar was sent back to Rice where it got an expensive new neck with cool figure, and I acquired another Tele in the meantime, so I decided to ask them to convert this one to an Esquire. Still routed for a neck pickup, and comes with the standard two-pickup guard separate. Tonally this guitar is a twanger, very vintage correct all tele. I'm just more of a humbucker guy in the first place, and this is too much tele. Switching is 1) no tone control, 2) treble cut/mid retention (like a cocked wah) and 3) traditional tone control. No buzz, low action, super-stable neck. An amazingly well-built guitar, not at all a parts-a-tele, a true joy to play. - Solid 2 piece center-seam lightweight swamp ash body, hand finished in nitrocellulose lacquer in Deep Copal, lightly aged - Flatsawn maple neck, 1.65" nut width, 6105 frets, 9.5" radius, .89"-1" C shape with a super thin nitro finish, deep amber color - Hand carved bone nut - Nickel Gotoh Vintage Tuners - Lollar Staggered Pole Alnico III Vintage wind tele pickup (same used by GVCG but not aged) - RS CTS pots/Switchcraft/vintage wiring and Hovland tone caps - Vintage-style lacquered fiberboard pickguard - also comes with standard tele pickguard of the same material if you want a neck pickup too - Glendale "Blackguard" Cold Rolled Steel bridgeplate with Brass Cutting Edge saddle set - Chrome dome knobs and control plate - Guitar ways about 6 1/2 lbs. Screw works fine. This affects nothing at all. You'll never know it's there. But here's a pic: http://i113.photobucket.com/albums/n215/ba.../Picture022.jpg
formula73 Posted December 24, 2008 Posted December 24, 2008 Good God, man. If I could sleep in a bed of Korina Vectors in a house of Korina Vectors, wake up and eat a Korina Vector bowl of Korina Vectors, then drive a Korina Vector to work, I would.
serial Posted December 24, 2008 Posted December 24, 2008 Great price for a Braz board Vector. Wow-that's what the regular production ones were going for two years ago (of course I think everything's down a bit in this economy!).
Pieman Posted December 24, 2008 Posted December 24, 2008 I sold an Ampeg amp to the Rice family this summer and found out they made guitars in Arlington Heights, Ill, around the corner from the old Hamer shop. They were terrific people to deal with. It was a fixer-upper, and I gave back a ton of many so they could get it right. They found lots wriong with it but not in a nit-picky way. If that's the way they approach guiatar building, then they must be pretty particular about their product.
mirrorimij Posted December 24, 2008 Posted December 24, 2008 Nice guitars. When did Hamer switch to the single ring tulip tuner buttons? My 97 Korina Vector has double rings and I like the look of the single rings. Are the single rings a direct replacement for the older double rings? Who makes the tuners they are currently using?
eminor Posted December 24, 2008 Author Posted December 24, 2008 Thank you all for the comments. Not sure on the first question about when they switched but this Vector's tuners are Kluson Deluxe. Thank you Pieman for relating the Rice story. One doesn't just order a guitar from them and get it in the mail. They have so many questions and thoughts. So many times I thought "It's just a tele, man." But they really take that care to the next level, and it shows in the buzz-free low action easy playing vintage-correct instrument they produced. Some touches are just cool - for instance the fiberboard pickguard is expensive, but more authentic. Made of the same material as the bobbins.
