hamerhead Posted July 24, 2009 Posted July 24, 2009 Point me in the right direction: I've got a PRS SE-EG (import) with a non-adjustable wraptail. Yes - I am a pussy - I'm looking for something I can intonate. Help?

veatch Posted July 25, 2009 Posted July 25, 2009 Haven't tried them (yet), but the Pigtail and the TonePros come highly recommended by someone whose opinion i trust.BubbaVO has a link to the Pigtail above already. Here's the TonePros page:Linky --> ToneProsThe wrap model is the AVT-II about 2/3 down the page.I have used plenty of BadAss bridges. Decent enough, but a bit heavy.
kanegon Posted July 28, 2009 Posted July 28, 2009 I've got two Badasses, one from a '80 Martin electric and another bought in 93 for a 67 SGJr. Problem is, they are both too tall for my setups, and I've had to replace them with Pigtails. I tried to salvage the Badass on the Martin with Tonepro studs but still couldn't get it low enough or eliminate the play/cant at the anchor. The Pigtails by comparison, are works of art. The slightly domed studs fit old Gibson bushing better than the original studs and they look and feel great. I tested 4 or 5 different pairs with the E18 and the Pigtail won. I'm also beginning to think that aluminum sounds better - more resonant and throatier than brass. It would have been the bridge that Martin used -- had it been around 30 years ago.

Is that an E-18 or EM-18? I used to sell the things and I've forgotten what the difference was. I've got a matched-pair E-28 and EB-28 (guitar and bass) and they both have all Schaller hardware. The guitar uses a Schaller intonatable wraptail that can have (or maybe could have had) fine tuners added behind it. I'll see if I can find a pic of the guitar.
Caddie Posted July 31, 2009 Posted July 31, 2009 That is indeed an EM-18. I bought one new in 1979. Great guitar, a little on the heavy side, it had a Badass intonatable bridge. glued in neck. Is that the diff? The 28 is a thru neck? The 18 did not have an on-board pre-amp. did the 28 have one? did the 28 have an ebony fingerboard? the 18 had rosewood. IIRC they produced it for just 3 yrs. Like most things Martin, it was a very nice guitar but this model just never caught on.
