Mindseyes Posted October 20, 2009 Posted October 20, 2009 Ok I sold an amp to some dude for a great price mind you. The amp was working perfect before I shiped and I know how to pack stuff, Ive shiped a few combos with no problems before!!!Well the now the guy is saying there is something wrong with the amp, cutting off intermitently. And he is acting like its the end of the world that there is no reverb tank, I didnt know there was suspost to be reverb on the amp, I bought it used and there was no verb now I look at the specs on the makers site yep....reverb included!!!!!oops on my part I guess but if something is that important to me I ask about it before hand...you know!?!Well I had a feeling there was going to be trouble from my buyer right after he sent the payment with this statement "Hopefully I made the right choice about the amp with as little as I've been working and all"So what do I do, I inshured the shipment, refund him for the reverb tank, let him file the claim?Help everyone ive dealt with up and to this point has been awesome, I dont know what to do????
Scottcrud Posted October 20, 2009 Posted October 20, 2009 Get your amp back, give the buyer his money back.
Jeff R Posted October 20, 2009 Posted October 20, 2009 If the amp was adequately insured, I'd say do what you can to assist him in processing the claim. Offer him copies of all shipping receipts, proof of insurance, etc.An amp that suddenly doesn't work probably took a drop and the box would reflect it. Ask him if he took any pictures of the box upon arrival.Remind him that a successful claim will mean he'll likely have to turn over the amp to the shipping company - he can't secure insurance money just to repair it (at least to my knowledge). If he's acting like he wants to keep the amp but still complaining about the absence of a reverb tank, show him this link and offer a refund that reflects the price, shipping, plus a few bucks for the inconvenience.http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001DIE3XIAssuming the amp was tube - considering the intermittent problem, did you ask him about trying tube substitution or fuse replacement as a possible trouble-shooting measure?Sorry about your predicament, Gray. Good luck out atcha.
Uncle Thor's Hamer Posted October 20, 2009 Posted October 20, 2009 Are you SURE that there was reverb when it was new? I mean, shouldn't there be a knob that is labeled "Reverb"? Maybe it was not standard equipment that year.As to the intermittent, it could be anything. Maybe a tube got damaged in transit. Maybe a wire got bumped loose, maybe the speaker isn't plugged all the way in and the new owner isn't competent to trouble shoot those kinds of things. Maybe it is the new owner's cord or guitar.Depending on the value of the amp, it may make sense to have it looked at by a reputable repair service. You still run a risk of getting scammed but maybe it is worth the risk. A reverb tank might cost $25 or so, plus installation. Replacing tubes is more costly for the parts, obviously. I don't know if tubes could be claimed as shipping damage. If the shipping cost isn't too terrible, perhaps you could offer a refund if he returns the amp. (I wouldn't send cash until receiving the amp back).
Mindseyes Posted October 20, 2009 Author Posted October 20, 2009 It was a private sale off ebay and he paid via Pay pal BTWAnd it was way over insured cuz thats how I roll when shiping somethingGood stuff there Jeff, thanks! As far that tank jeff, the amp is a Randal RM50 and takes a special tank and PCB, I called Randal and checked and they said about a bill shiped! Thanks so far guys, Im gonna send him a email in a bit to feel him out.
murkat Posted October 20, 2009 Posted October 20, 2009 Get your amp back, give the buyer his money back.yup, tooshayee.sever the embillaca chord.
Mindseyes Posted October 22, 2009 Author Posted October 22, 2009 Ok I sent the dood an email bringing up most of the points Jeff brought up, offered to work something out about the reverb... Sent it yesterday afternoon and still haven heard from him...WTF???How long do you guys wait to try to resolve something like this?I know if I had some legit problems with something I bought and the seller offered to help out I think I'd get back to him as soon as possible. So how long do I wait till I tell him he's S.O.L. because in my mind after 24 hours of no contact Its a done deal!!!!!Is there anything he can do to me via Pay Pal( this was not an Ebay transaction BTW)I wanna help the guy out if there are legit reasons ya know, but dont come hit me up for a refund after a week.................Give me some input guys because im stressing this one!!!!No more dealing withe people I dont know or kinda know via the HFC......LOL
Mindseyes Posted October 22, 2009 Author Posted October 22, 2009 Ok had this reply from him this A.M.................................................................................................... "Thanks for getting back to on this. After going through with the troubleshooting, the tubes, connections, etc the amp stopped acting I think, but did not have much time left to play to make sure it does not die again.I really appreciate that you do not intend to keep me hanging. I am pretty much stoned about the reverb though, it's a must for me and not sure what to do. The problem is if I try to sell it I will loose a lot of money like this knowing the issue and the non existent reverb, which also means I won't feel comfortable selling this online on forums, ebay etc. So I thought about selling this to a store and today I called one of the music stores that I sold my amps before and they only offered $300 for the amp, as he found 4 of these amps sold for around $375 within the last couple of months.I then called Guitar Center which I have good relations with the folks over there and the best they could do was $380.I think what's fair is if you could compensate me back for some, then I will not be loosing as much when I sell it and find another amp, or maybe I can try to find some ways to put a reverb tank into it.Not really sure how much you can do but anything helps. Thanks a lot."..................................................................................................
Scooter Posted October 22, 2009 Posted October 22, 2009 Soundslike he's more worried about flipping it for a profit than playing it...If the reverb circuit is like most amps, you could just tell him to plug in a new tank. In fact, you could be a nice guy and send him one. They're cheap on eBay.orGet the amp back and give him his money back.
cmatthes Posted October 22, 2009 Posted October 22, 2009 Get the amp back and give him his money back.I think this is your answer. He knows he paid less than the going rate for the amp, or at least "at a great price". He probably thought he'd make some money flipping it, so may not have ever had the intent to keep it.I'd say to have him return it, he eats return shipping, and once back in your possession and in the condition you sent it, you'll refund his money.
Uncle Thor's Hamer Posted October 22, 2009 Posted October 22, 2009 I'm still confused about the reverb missing. Was there a knob or an open hole for a knob that said "Reverb"?Tanks are cheap, as already mentioned. Good tanks are in the $25 range, you just have to do a few minutes of internet research to find the correct model for that amp. Two screws to attach it to the inside of the cabinet, and a couple of short cords to plug it in.I would be very careful about calculating an amount to refund him for the lack of reverb. If you take the average going price on eBay, and subtract something like $35 for the reverb, that is what the amp is worth. If he paid anything less than that, you don't owe him anything more than the cost of a new reverb tank.Ultimately, I think cmatthes may be correct, get it back and then refund his $.
Scottcrud Posted October 22, 2009 Posted October 22, 2009 Get your amp back, give the buyer his money back.Listen to me grasshopper...^^^^^
Jeff R Posted October 22, 2009 Posted October 22, 2009 If he's gotta have reverb, have you suggested he run a DigiVerb through the Randall's effects loop? It will sound better than the factory reverb circuit I had in my Randall RM combo. Buncha reverb types and not a bad pedal at all. Just found three completed auctions on eBay where all sold under $60. That's not a corksniffer fix, but then again the Randall ain't corksniffer either Just a quick-fix thought considering the reverb on that amp is not as simple as buying and mounting a tank and plugging it up.
Mindseyes Posted October 22, 2009 Author Posted October 22, 2009 I think we settled it............I hope....
