I can't find it. Does anyone know what store it was at? This is right down my alley.

Hi guys, I am the lucky one who got the Prototype. I am planning on posting pictures and even some audio files of this guitar in a couple days. Some of the questions above answered: The headstock has not been repaired...and the front of it is just plain. Can't tell for sure if there ever was a black face on it.

Serial number shows it to be an 81.

I am going to pull the pickguard off (b/w/b well-done replacement) and see if there ever was room for a single coil in there as well as the Duncan HB that is in there now. The Duncan is labeled and of course, not stock.

As the pixs show...there was a Floyd type tremolo installed...doubt if it was done by Hamer...I suspect the previous owner wanted a whammy and then realized it wasn't the best way to go...especially if you do not put in a lock nut....I do not see any of the tell-tale locking nut screw holes.

Some general comments on this guitar...great player...solid feel. The nut on this thing is the best I have ever seen. Ivory or bone maybe??? The cut's for each string run directly towards the pegs, the strings don't snag like most when de-tuning the guitar. Whoever cut this one knew what they were doing.

Anyway, sorry no pictures now...perhaps tonight.

Ok, here are some pics and some more info. First, a better front shot:

Here is a back shot:

Now, for some interesting findings:

First, there were screw holes from a lock nut...cleverly hidden by a nice wide truss rod cover.

And, the back of the neck:

Now...why fill in the spot where the single coil fit in? I was considering putting in a single coil like the original. Not sure I want to get at it with a router....

And, last but not least the contol cavity...nice and clean.

At any rate, this is a real solid guitar...and no wonder with all that mahogany! I'm not sure if I am going to keep it since I like the option of a single coil sound at times. Torn....

That one could use some serious refinishing, but otherwise looks like a cool project. How's the trem route on the back?

Looks like they at least took the time to memorialize the serial number, although the stamping and that gawdawful "Hamer USA" is pretty crude. I'd say fill that in, put the logo back on there and pick a color!

The trem route doesn't go through to the back, must have had one of those "surface mount" trems installed.

I love the feel and look of the neck of the guitar as it is, the satin finish on the Mahogany is awesome. If I were to re-finish the guitar, is it possible to just do the headstock and the body...not the back of the neck? I have seen some guitars with this feature...Carvins maybe?

Where would a guy get a decent looking Hamer Logo...would I just do a black face and then apply a decal?

I refinshed an MIJ Strat years back that turned out pretty good, but of course, that is about as easy as it gets to refinish since you can remove the neck and all in about 5 imutes. You can even take a strat body and drag it behind a car and some one will pay extra.
