Buzzy Fretts Posted August 14, 2005 Posted August 14, 2005 I just returned from a week in Maine away from e-mail and web and this was waiting in my inbox. I really like my Hellhound and I believe the current Kingsnake offering has been well reviewed amoung the HFC. Sorry if someone already posted...LAST CHANCE TO BUY A REVEREND AMP!
Guest teefus2 Posted August 14, 2005 Posted August 14, 2005 hmmm. seems like the kingsnake got some good press, right? weren't the amps made offshore anyway? seems like they wouldn't have to allocate much resources to that. oh well, sorry to see it.
DavidE Posted August 14, 2005 Posted August 14, 2005 I'm about to sell my Hellhound stack (serial #35). Think it's worth keeping for collector's value? ;-)
bobbymack Posted August 14, 2005 Posted August 14, 2005 FWIW. I thought the Hellhound was a great amp for the money, right up there with the Trace Elliot Velocette V12R in bang for the buck...
Jorge Posted August 15, 2005 Posted August 15, 2005 D@MN!!!I placed an order immediately after reading this post, for a Goblin. But they would NOT take it, at least online, because my billing address (Santiago) is different from my shipping address (Miami).D@MN again!!!!
Luke Posted August 15, 2005 Posted August 15, 2005 Joe Naylor has some very odd business practices, it seems like as soon as he gets something good going he quits and moves onto something else, he should have been in the Sex Pistols.
FunkyE9th Posted August 15, 2005 Posted August 15, 2005 All my amps are now Reverend. I have the Hellhound, Kingsnake and the Goblin. Love all of them. Sounds great and easy on my back. Too bad they are getting out the amp business. Their customer support is really good. I called there before and Joe Naylor actually picks up the phone.-FunkyE9th
MCChris Posted August 15, 2005 Posted August 15, 2005 Joe Naylor has some very odd business practices, it seems like as soon as he gets something good going he quits and moves onto something else ... It's the Mark Samson model for an amp business.
lonote049 Posted August 15, 2005 Posted August 15, 2005 Joe says he has the resources to support his American-made guitars and either a line of amplifiers or a line of Korean-made instruments; he is choosing the imported line of guitars. I think, like a lot of small businesses, he has had to make choices that he didn't like making. Despite their positive reviews and owner loyalty, I don't think the amps sold all that well. I have a Rumblefish bass that I love, but they were discontinued because they didn't sell all that well. A small business simply can't afford to have money sitting on warehouse shelves.
tgoss Posted August 15, 2005 Posted August 15, 2005 That's one amp I wished I had gotten my hands on. It'll be interesting to see what happens to the prices on those.
Buzzy Fretts Posted August 15, 2005 Author Posted August 15, 2005 Hey T-2, the amps were american made - at least american assembled. "Assembled in the USA: designed, tested and assembled in the USA using American and imported parts." Hey Funky9, how do you feel about the difference between the Hellhound and the Kingsnake?
FunkyE9th Posted August 15, 2005 Posted August 15, 2005 Hey Funky9, how do you feel about the difference between the Hellhound and the Kingsnake? The Kingsnake sounds like a Hellhound, but has a tighter sounding bass. The Kingsnake doesn't compress like the Hellhound. It has a sharper attack. It is definitely lighter, which is great. -FunkyE9th
DavidE Posted August 15, 2005 Posted August 15, 2005 Hey T-2, the amps were american made - at least american assembled. "Assembled in the USA: designed, tested and assembled in the USA using American and imported parts." Hey Funky9, how do you feel about the difference between the Hellhound and the Kingsnake? The guts of the Hellhounds were mostly made in China. Essentially a reworked Pignose with some design changes and some better parts.
Buzzy Fretts Posted August 15, 2005 Author Posted August 15, 2005 Essentially a reworked Pignose with some design changes and some better parts. There is actually a reverend webpage that address this question. "A Pignose is entirely built in China, put in a box, and never removed from that box until the buyer opens it. And it does not sound like a Hellhound. The feel, dynamics, overdrive characteristics, gain level, usefulness of the tone controls are all very different. This is because the critical tone components are not the same: different output transformer, speaker, tubes and circuit design. " Pignose? Anyway if a pignose sounded as good as my Hellhound, I'd have two.
tuoti1 Posted August 15, 2005 Posted August 15, 2005 If this causes used Reverend amp prices to drop, it's REALLY going to be tough not adding one to my aresenal.
Jorge Posted August 16, 2005 Posted August 16, 2005 Price drop? Not a chance, IMO. I finally could order my Goblin via direct mail. 4 weeks for delivery.
davidG Posted August 18, 2005 Posted August 18, 2005 I finally could order my Goblin via direct mail. 4 weeks for delivery. Must be getting orders! Just ordered a Kingsnake Head and web site now says build times are 5-6 weeks. They emailed me back with 5-8 weeks. Get 'em while they're hot!
