bobsessed Posted August 17, 2005 Posted August 17, 2005 I'm gonna probably get rid of my *pristine* Fender Tone-Master, and the matching 412 cab...(anybody???). Iwant to keep the 212 cab to use with something else....maybe something with 60 watts or so, please give me some suggestions! And, oh yeah, it has to be reasonably priced...the main reason for my "downsizing" is to raise money for a restaurant "project" I've been working on for a few years. I make my living with a home repair/remodeling business, and heart surgery has kinda forced me to get over the financial "hump", and get the restaurant running....Thanks for your help, -Bob-
bobsessed Posted August 17, 2005 Author Posted August 17, 2005 What???? Nobody wants to sing the praises of their favorite 600-800 dollar amp? I didn't ask for yer money! Just suggestions...........
Guitarseh Posted August 17, 2005 Posted August 17, 2005 What style(s) of music? Are you are a tube-aholic, or do you think modeling or solid-state amps can sound OK? Knowing those answers might help MarkB
iownit4 Posted August 17, 2005 Posted August 17, 2005 I have a nice amp 4 sale .. It's a top of the line crate usa amp .. 60 watts all tube check the reviews on harmony-central.com vintage club series 6112.60 watts ,2channels ,reverb effects loop email for better pics .. 300.00I paid over 500.00 the amp is GREAT conditionhttp://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y110/iownit4/056b0874.jpghttp://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y110/iownit4/fe4737e9.jpg
bobsessed Posted August 17, 2005 Author Posted August 17, 2005 Guitarseh....I'm mostly RAWK oriented, but I'll clean up sometimes too. For the last 25 years or so, I've only used tube amps, but I'm not into the modeling thing, and I'm not totally against solid-state.....I know Marshalls Valvestate stuff is pretty good. -Bob-
Tres Aardvarks Posted August 17, 2005 Posted August 17, 2005 What???? Nobody wants to sing the praises of their favorite 600-800 dollar amp? I didn't ask for yer money! Just suggestions........... I didn't think you really wanted em saying "I dig my Flextone"
mattb Posted August 17, 2005 Posted August 17, 2005 You wont find a Shiva in the 600-800 range. I would suggest a MESA MKIII Green Stripe. I just picked one up and it is my #1 by far. Took out my Hughes and Kettner Duotone.-MattB
tgoss Posted August 17, 2005 Posted August 17, 2005 Since it's one of my favorites, I'll recommend the Vox AD120VTH.We sell 'em at $599.99
JohnnyB Posted August 17, 2005 Posted August 17, 2005 What???? Nobody wants to sing the praises of their favorite 600-800 dollar amp? I didn't ask for yer money! Just suggestions...........Well, that's the thing -- is there a favorite $600-800 tube head making 60w? Most of the favorites in this category are more money -- Dr. Z, Top Hat, Fargen, Bogner, Marshall, THD, Rivera, Mesa, etc. For mass-produced amps, Ampeg doesn't make a tube head anymore, and you already had a Fender. That'd leave Peavey and Crate, and it's kind of hard to get worked up about them unless there's a Classic 30 or Classic 50 head (is there? I dunno).Flash: I just checked and there is a Crate V30H, which I suspect is similar to the power section of a Classic 30. It's $599 at Musician's Friend, but they won't have any in stock until 8/31. Getting one of these and sending it off to Teefus to mod might be a way cool solution.MF also carries a line of US-made tube heads under the brand name of B-52 in your price range. Other than seeing them on the MF website, I don't know a thing about them. Might be worth a look.My pick would be a Traynor YCV-40 if they made a head version. 2 6L6s making 40 w, 2 channels, etc. A YCV-40 1x12 combo plus a 1x12 extension cab, perhaps? The YCV-40 by itself isn't much heavier than many heads (46 lbs.).I can think of a few great candidates on the used market, though. How 'bout a 50w Sovtek head? A used Rivera perhaps? A Rivera S120 looks like it would be ideal for you, but I don't know what they run or what's available on the used market. But here's a good possibility: Mesa/Boogie DC-5 head. 2x6L6s making 50 watts, built-in tank reverb, and of course full sets of controls for the clean and lead channels. Buttloads of I/Os on the back to run into various speaker cabs, slave amps, consoles, effects loop, headphones, etc. And if you can't find a DC-5 head, the DC-10 head on the used market would fit your budget. Even though it's 100w, there's a toggle to turn off two output tubes and take the output down to 60w. I have a DC-10 combo and it's a pretty marvelous and versatile amp.
bobsessed Posted August 18, 2005 Author Posted August 18, 2005 Thanks JohnnyB! ....There's some advice I can work with!! -Bob-
bobsessed Posted August 18, 2005 Author Posted August 18, 2005 And Thanks to the rest of you too ! ! ! -Bob-
Guitarseh Posted August 18, 2005 Posted August 18, 2005 Sunn T-50C 1x12 combo is cool, and you could use your cab to push more air. They have a 1/4 power switch, footswitchable effects loop with level control that can be used as a boost, and sound great. All tube, and can be found used for $5-600. Not a head, but worth a look.MarkB

KorinaHound Posted August 18, 2005 Posted August 18, 2005 Check out a Reverend Kingsnake or Hellhound.Check 'em quick because Reverend is apparently getting out of the amp biz...KorinaHound
Zoner Posted August 18, 2005 Posted August 18, 2005 I would recommend a Mesa Mk3 since they seem to be around in the 500-700 range and do almost everything very well and some things extremely well ("Fenderish" clean and paint removing "classic" high gain lead). Handbuilt, all tube with 'verb, effects loop, slave(line) out and a footswitchable EQ if you get the "loaded" version. The 3 modes are all very useful although a few compromises need to be made if you want to switch between all 3 in a live setting. Oh yeah, they are stone reliable and easily serviced/modded. My $.02. mattb Posted August 18, 2005 Posted August 18, 2005 Mark III on the BayThis one is in nice shape with all 3 switches.
