Can someone help me purchasing my first Hamer

Hey Everyone , I am new to this board,

I am thinking of buying A Hamer at a local guitar center. It is a zebra striped, black and white striped Hamer Blitz. While searching for this guitar on the net, I somehow came across someone's profile that belong to this board (Sir Douglas). He had a picture of this guitar in his collection. I can't find much information about this guitar, but I have played it and do like it.

The price is $1000 and it is used, and I don't know if this is true but, it was called a Ted Nugent Signature Edition. I haven't heard of it. Does anyone have any more info on this and if it is a fair price.

Any info will be appreciated, Thanks

Welcome AmerShred,

If it's in excellent/near-mint shape with the OHSC, then I don't think $1k out-the-door is unreasonable. If it's beaten up, $5-700 seems the going rate, although I'm no expert on Hamer values, only what I've seen stuff sell for here and on eBay.

Other determining factors:

Floyd Rose tremelo?

Sustainblock tremelo w/locking Schaller tuners?

Original electronics?

As far as the "Ted" story, sounds like the GCdipshit is pulling your chain. Nuge has/had a PRS model with a similar zebra graphic finish. As far as I know, Hamer never had Ted as an endorser, nor had any finishes attached to his name.

If you like the guitar and it's in really primo condition, offer them $800, not a frikken penny more.

That guitar is no Nuge signature.

MINT it should be $800.

There are better Hamers out there.

Welcome to the board, we look forward to you taking part!

Ditto above. There NEVER was a Hamer Ted Nugent Signature model. Charlie Huhn from Ted's band played Hamers (a Standard and a couple of Sunbursts), but no Blitz guitars.

The B/W "Zebra" graphic was an offered finish on that model, but that was in no way associated with Ted. PRS did do a similar graphic on one of Ted's mid-80s PRS Standards, but that's as close as it gets.

Blitz guitars do not sell for $1,000 at this point in ANY condition, unless they are a unique custom order model (with binding, flametops, crown inlays, etc.). You should easily be able to talk that down to something more reasonable - otherwise, you're significantly overpaying based on what the current market will bear.

Waiting for Bil to chip in right here:

$1000 is too much, don't buy it. I do think Blitzes are great guitars like all USA Hamers. It's definately not a Ted Nugent model. That idea came from his zebra stripped PRS guitar with Damn Yankees probably. Blitzes are still the 1 USA Hamer you can get pretty cheap. Like BCR Greg said $800 for a DEAD MINT is OK. $350 - $500 is common for the Blitz. Mick Mars of Motley Crue used a zebra blitz in 1982 or 1983. My first Hamer was a gold Blitz in 1983.
