RobB Posted September 6, 2005 Posted September 6, 2005 I'm working a trade for a VAC 2x10 22w combo and was wondering if any HFCer VAC owners could post any tips/tones/settings, etc. for me to mull over so's I can dive into 'er straight away. Thanks in advance,
Caddie Posted September 7, 2005 Posted September 7, 2005 I suggest that your best bet is to call Rob directly at Valvetech and discuss with him what sound your are trying to achieve, with what guitar, and with what version of his amp. He is very very good at getting you to where you want to go with his amp, and he is a very decent perspn to work with.Noonan
bruce919 Posted September 7, 2005 Posted September 7, 2005 Speakers make a BIG change in the sound of the amp. I bought mine used. I had a set of Weber siver tens in it. It sounded good for clean & slightly overdrien tones but were too treble sounding when you really kicked up the gain. I swapped them out for some EM Red Coat Ramrod & a Blue Coat Copperhead. It made a huge improvement in tone quality. if the Amp is one made more then a year ago. Rob has a quick presence mod. he does now. It takes a great deal of the high treble out of the amp & makes the ten sound more like 12s. I live about 40 miles from him. I took it up one Saturday afternoon & it took him about 10 min. to do the whole thing. The one I have is one of the best amps I have ever played. I sold many of my amps off because i never played anymore after the Valvetech. Rob will work with you to to tweek the amp to your taste. To me this amps is an Old Fender Deluxe that has been moded the MAX.BTW: I have the Weber siver ten for sale if anyone is interested.
tralfax19645 Posted September 7, 2005 Posted September 7, 2005 Hi, Just contact me at [email protected], or 260 622 7241. I can tell you if the amp has the last mod. ANY amp that does not have the F mod needs it. Rob
ceeb Posted September 7, 2005 Posted September 7, 2005 How do I tell if my amp has the F Mod? I think that presence mod came about the same time my amp was shipped.
MCChris Posted September 7, 2005 Posted September 7, 2005 Will yours have the old school Lo/Hi tone stack or a dedicated mid control?Mine has the former and I like to dime everything except the Lo control, which I roll back to 3 o'clock to bring in some mids. More verstaile than it sounds if you like to get clean tones with your guitar's volume control.
bruce919 Posted September 7, 2005 Posted September 7, 2005 It will either have a "F" after the serial number or you may have to contact Rob to get the Serial number that is started.I thought he told me it was in the lower 200's, but it has been a while.
mfreyer Posted September 7, 2005 Posted September 7, 2005 I have an old 22w 1x12" original version that doesn't even have a serial number. My starting point is usually plugged into 2 lo, with everything at 12 o'clock and the X/Y gain switch either way (depending on the mood). I guess Rob voiced it just right for me.Matt
tralfax19645 Posted September 7, 2005 Posted September 7, 2005 Hi, The easy way to tell is check if there is a capacitor going between the blue and brown wires hookied to oin 3 of the power tube sockets. If there is youre there. If not it does not have the last mod Rob
RobB Posted September 7, 2005 Author Posted September 7, 2005 I'm not sure of the year/ser. no., but it is on the way to Rob now for the latest update mods. It's got Reverend speakers; I don't know if that's good or bad but they seem to get pretty high marks in reviews. I figger if Joe Naylor designed them, they must rock! I'm looking forward to this amp. It's the first tube combo I've owned in a while (80's: Fender Princeton Reverb, 90's: Boog MkIIb, and now the Valvetech). Also, my first amp w/10" speakers.
