Guest teefus2 Posted September 8, 2005 Posted September 8, 2005 arbiter headnow granted, i know nothing about arbiter amps but neither does the seller yet they assume that it is collectible because they have heard that name before even though they state that they don't know for a fact that the two were associated (arbiter fuzz guy and this amp maker). AND it is is good cosmetical (sic) condition even though the photos make it look like it has been through a flood and was also used as a jack for all terrain vehcles.
tafkathundernotes Posted September 8, 2005 Posted September 8, 2005 It's essentially a Sound City head. That price is a joke.
Turdus Posted September 8, 2005 Posted September 8, 2005 IIRC, Sound City were distributed by Dalles Arbiter. I had a couple of the 120 watt (6xEL34) heads, and a 50. Terrible hiss from all of them, but the 120's sounded great for bass, at least I thought. Geez, I think I even sold one to ElDuave circa '93.Did I Dave, or am I dreaming again?
Guest teefus2 Posted September 8, 2005 Posted September 8, 2005 here's another one, a little closer to home. starting bid = more than 2x the usual going rate. 25th ann
JohnnyB Posted September 8, 2005 Posted September 8, 2005 here's another one, a little closer to home. starting bid = more than 2x the usual going rate. In the spec chart, it has "Year Range" as "unknown." It's a 25th Anniversary. Wouldn't that narrow it down a bit? I guess the math's too complicated -- what's 1974 + 25? Not to mention that the serial number's intact, which gives you the date. I don't think any 25ths went for $1299 NEW!
killerteddybear Posted September 8, 2005 Posted September 8, 2005 What a joke - gcrep wants $1299 for a 25th Ann and they don't even take decent photos of it... I picked up a P-bass yesterday for $225 and the pix were a hell of a lot better!
Guest slim Posted September 8, 2005 Posted September 8, 2005 I've had a few interesting email exchanges with gcrep. Take a look at the history of his items. Nothing sells. He has had a few early specials listed for close to $1000 that were all beat to hell. I ended up getting one from Mr. Fung for about half the price.Slim
anotherfreak2 Posted September 8, 2005 Posted September 8, 2005 It sounds amazing. It's the perfect blend of everything you love about other gutiars (Les Paul, Strat, Tele) but without the extremes. but without the extremes WTF??? great pitch! I can see people just linin' up for this one!
Submariner85 Posted September 8, 2005 Posted September 8, 2005 Here is one for 800 b.i.n. and another that is only bid up to 650 with half a day left.http://cgi.ebay.com/Hamer-25th-Anniversary...1QQcmdZViewItemhttp://cgi.ebay.com/Hamer-25th-Anniversary...1QQcmdZViewItem
straightblues Posted September 9, 2005 Posted September 9, 2005 What do you guys think their business plan is? I am intreged. They always post things at about 20% more than they are worth and they just continue to run them for months. Do you think they are just trying to increase the value of things by getting everyone use to seeing high prices? I bought a guitar from my local GC that had been listed on Ebay for several months at about 20% less than it was listed on Ebay but of course they wouldn't comment on their pricing strategy.
Submariner85 Posted September 9, 2005 Posted September 9, 2005 They might be trying to grab the "impulse buyers"?
cmatthes Posted September 9, 2005 Posted September 9, 2005 Exactly! The Impulse Buyer is not always the guy/girl walking into the shop. They also price high on ALL their vintage stuff at the GCs near me. Either that, or a '78 Strat really DOES sell for $9,800. And who knew that a '77 STARcaster (not STRATocaster!) is a "Rare Collectible" and priced at $6,998 (case extra, maybe?)?I think that is also to cover them if the guitar is really worth more than they're asking. Most of the GC doods I've encountered don't know squat about vintage, or even relatively recent, guitars.
Submariner85 Posted September 9, 2005 Posted September 9, 2005 Starcaster LOLI'm thinking those are worth about as much as a bullet or an affinity squier.
