The perfect sized 2 x 12" closed back cab

Doing a bit of research, I've noticed that there's all sizes of 2 x 12" closed back cabs...the Marshall Model 1936, the Marshall Model 1922 (which barely has room for the speakers, IMHO), the Marshall Model 1966, the old 'small' Fender 2 x 12", the HUGE Fender 2 x 12" of the late sixties/early seventies, and all sorts in between. Any recommendations? Why? Keeping in mind, I'm thinking of a strictly closed back cab. No convertibles, no open back cabs. Edited to add: no fancy baffles or ports, either, just a closed 2 x 12" cab with a solid baffleboard. TIA!

I like the Mesa 2 x 12. Used it in "combination" with a Mesa 4 x 10 (Jensens. open back) and a Mesa Road King.

The appeal is that I could use either cab or both together, just by changing channels (using different output tubes combinations with either). SO, go from traditional clean(er) to bluesy to much louder styles. The 2 x 12 fits much better the louder and more modern you want to go.

And it you DO mix the cabinets, it is a really BIG sound-----Open and clear. yet loud and in your face at the same time.

The selection of the Mesa was to be able to get the essence of a 4 x 12 without the size, weight or expense. Great bass. Lots of power handling. As always, YMMV.

Cool! What's the size and/or model number? Or does Mesa just have one 2 x 12" cab? Edited to add: I should probably ask about 12" speakers here, too.

This is the one I have. The key info is included in this link. They also make one that is bigger, vertical and much heavier (slant cabinet). I have not tried it. The smaller one works for me.....And is probably easier to find too.

Mojotone makes both straight and slant front Marshall-type 2x12s that are about the size and weight of a 4x10. Nice 'whump' without the backache. Not cheap, but really well built, and good looking, too. I have the slant version and it's on the 'never sell' list.

Egnater Tourmaster 2x12..... Oversized, Fat, Sounding with removable 3 piece back to let things air out if you want an open back. I've been holding out but I'll most likley be hooking into one soon.
