Seymour Duncan magnet switch?

I have a guitar that has a Duncan Custom Custom in it....I hate this pickup, always have.. I know Custom Custom, the Custom V and Custom are the same pickup with the exception of the Magnet... How hard is it to find a Anico V magnet? I think the switch is fairly easy... or better off to just get a new pickup.. This guitar is set up screwy... Custom Custom in the bridge and Dimarzio Norton in the neck(kind of JBish) I'm thinking about moving the Norton to the bridge and putting a PAF Pro in the neck...

Not sure if any of the dealers on the board sell magnets (i'm sure they'll chime in if they do...)

If not, there's a guy on eBay (addiction-fx) that sells them pretty cheap. You would need a 2.5" x 0.5" x 0.125" magnet for a Duncan.

You're probably looking at about $5 shipped - much cheaper than a new pup...

Hope that helps.

Easy enough to find a magnet on the internet. I didn't like the Custom it was to brash, the Custom Custom was muddy and the Custom 5 to me is the best of the three. It's not perfect and I wish it had a little more high end but it is in the middle of a 59 and a BBQ. BBQ kinda Fatness but without the Cocked Wah Sound that I hear in the BBQ.

Polished or un-polished? Does it matter?

The tonejunkies might say yes.

Every Al5 magnet I have handled was polished. Every Al2 was rough. Not sure why....Save your Al2 and mark the edge that points to north (towards the slugs).

My experience with Al2s is that it can breath some life into some generic ceramic magnet pickups...

If you are going to buy one, you might want to consider buying a small variety to experiment.

Wow, I learned something. I've had to take a pickup apart and reverse the magnet. I've never thought of replacing a Al5 with a Al2..

I just bought two un polishe A2s and two A4 from Sheptone for my pair of Antiquities.

So far I have the A4s in there, and have tried the A2 in the neck. The A4s sound a bit harsh, almost ceramic, to my ears. So I'll go with the A2s. The A2 I tried in the neck sounded better than the original dun aged ones, they are a bit weak. Not bad soundning, I just felt I needed a touch more oumph.
