cmatthes Posted February 15, 2013 Posted February 15, 2013 The left one above is Black/Gold Granite, the right is "Irridescent". Those were factory finishes v. the O'Connor "Marble" and other graphics, which were shipped out to Jim's shop to finish. Both are damned cool...
serial Posted February 15, 2013 Posted February 15, 2013 Well, "The Gentleman" is a highly respected TalkBass member and his initials are in the control cavity. Seeing as he was working that line I would have no reason to question what he had to say. Unless of course someone else here was working at the factory painting and building Impact basses??? No offense to your friend, but I've seen a few like that-including the one posted by another member in this thread. Tons of people worked at Hamer over the years. Some for as long as 17 years straight, some for a few days. I interviewed maybe forty or more former guys (and a gal) who worked at Hamer. No idea how long your friend worked there, unless you mentioned who he is. If he was someone who was there a while or was someone pretty well known there, odds are pretty good I've talked to him.

I used to have an iridescent Impact bass that had belonged to Bill Kaman - I bought it from Blue Note Guitars where it was consigned for him; it took 36 frets to pry that and a few other toys from my clutches lol. That was a great bass (as were all the other Impacts I've played).Edited 'cause there's a difference between where and were. It's a fine line, as they say...
Tres Aardvarks Posted February 15, 2013 Posted February 15, 2013 I'm sure I have no idea what you are talking about. I'm surprised the Feds didn't intercept the shipment from NE to the Rockies (I still have all the ones you sold me) it took 36 frets to pry that and a few other toys from my clutches lol. That was a great bass (as were all the other Impacts I've played).
BaronVonFunkenstien Posted February 16, 2013 Posted February 16, 2013 Bass is sold and on the way to the UK! Thank you to all who assisted, looks like the European market is still doing a bit better than over here!
cmatthes Posted February 17, 2013 Posted February 17, 2013 That's "Irridescent" if there are those greens (and maybe faded reds?) under the black.
