Wiring question Sunburst

So I took my 79 Sunburst to my local fav luthier, did a set-up verified pup's ect. He told me it was wired out of faze/ ala peter green. So was this a factory option?? or a something that was common on the Sunburst back then?? A little history,, this guitar was a factory order, shipped out to Seattle and sat in a closet since 82. Thanks for your help, and sorry if this a repeat question

From what I can gather, this was a very common mod that involved flipping the magnet in one pickup. I'm not sure if it was a factory option or not, but was often seen in sunbursts in that time frame.

According to the HFC articles on each, Sunbursts and Specials were wired out of phase (as opposed to using the magnet flip). It says all but the earliest Sunbursts were wired that way.

Yup, it left the factory wired out of phase.

From the beginning Paul and Jol had a particular sound in mind, and that was the out of phase sound.
