Maple Neck Edge Wear: What can I coat it with?

I've got a maple-necked '79 Peavey T-40 bass, with a neck I really like except for one thing: it has about an inch or so of finish wear along the treble side of the neck edge. It's not bad, and yes I know that having a maple neck with finish wear is in vogue with the relic'd crowd, but I don't want the raw wood to start eroding and getting deeper or bigger with use. What can I use to coat this area with, for protection? The neck has a urethane or polyester finish, and it is in no need of a refinish otherwise. TIA! :)

you can coat it with a lot of love!!!!

Won't that just make it sticky?

I recommend not that.

Dunno what you do with your guitar, but I have seen old guitars sporting blank wood for decades that seemed not being eroded. So, I'd rather recommend Blue Red White's solution just without Hamerhead's exudate. B)

My MIK Standard sports a similar blank area on the bass side of the neck, right below the nut. Wood did not change in years.

Nope, it would make it warm and sparkling!!!

The area of finish wear was already on the bass when I bought it.

Looking off-site for solutions, clear fingernail polish gets mentioned a lot. Anybody use this for guitar clear-coat finish touchups?
