formula73 Posted March 16, 2005 Posted March 16, 2005 Found this on ebay. I'm not the seller so I didn't post it on the For Sale page. Wicked cool!http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...7308416429&rd=1
Steve Haynie Posted March 16, 2005 Posted March 16, 2005 That Blitz could be fun, but I wouldn't want to sink a ton of money into it. Has anyone here played with a bass whammy bar?
serial Posted March 16, 2005 Posted March 16, 2005 I have a Scarab Bass that used to belong to Jack Blades (has his name on the headstock and all-yippee!). That one has a factory Kahler. It's an '84, so that's an early bass Kahler. It actually can do more than I thought it could. I remember playing a Jackson or something in the 80s with a Kahler bass trem and it just kind of went "Ker-thump" and that was about it. This one can be much more articulate than I remember them being. I just picked up a killer Impact from a fellow HFCer, so the Scarab is potentially expendable. The Impact is great for me.

Are you the one that scored the red Impact that was up for sale on the board recently? Since the Scarab bass is expendable, I am interested. Email me. You know the address.
Scarabaeus Posted March 16, 2005 Posted March 16, 2005 Ah, yellow, that's right, it was yellow. I think someone mentioned red in a comment. Mine is black, but hey, for $175, I am not complaining.
marcnorth Posted March 16, 2005 Posted March 16, 2005 I got the red one, These things are killer.I like the yellow one too.
Smakutus Posted March 16, 2005 Posted March 16, 2005 Has anyone here played with a bass whammy bar? A friend of mine had a kahler on his Gibson Grabber bass. It worked good, stayed in tune etc.. But was mostly useless.out..Jeff.
serial Posted March 16, 2005 Posted March 16, 2005 It certainly doesn't have the functionality of a whammy on a guitar. I play in a band with one guitar player and a semi-guitar playing vocalist (mostly chordal stuff), so I actually use this more than I thought I would, but it isn't necessarily something I couldn't live without-just adds a neat element I think, particularly when there are two guitar parts and one doubles the bass line.I seem to remember Mike Anthony having on on his bass on the 1984 tour and it made a lot of noise. Mostly low-end "thwonk".
tomteriffic Posted March 16, 2005 Posted March 16, 2005 I'd think the Kahler would be best suited to doing things like bending harmonics and such, or to put on a fretless just to get way out there. Seems the potential for muddy chaos would be too great for it to be useful for much else, unless you're Victor Wooten or somebody.
formula73 Posted March 16, 2005 Author Posted March 16, 2005 I had one on an Ibanez Destroyer bass that was fun. I wouldn't play it all the time(when I was playing at being a bassist), but it was cool every now and then. It's a farking blast when you're playing an extended intro to NIB!
