anotherfreak Posted March 18, 2014 Posted March 18, 2014 Is there ANYONE who makes a cradle/docking station that will output rca jacks for a reciever and/or HDMI to the TV?these stupid phones have everything BUT connectivitywhy do I fill my phone up with pics/vid if I can't take it to g'mas house and put on a showI am using a Samsung Galaxy phoneis there a fix I haven't been able to find???
atquinn Posted March 18, 2014 Posted March 18, 2014 I have a Galaxy S4 and I can send audio and video to my tv wirelessly through DLNA I believe (it might help that I have a Samsung Smart TV). What model tv are you trying to get media to?-Austin
Teh Posted March 18, 2014 Posted March 18, 2014 If you have an iPhone, get Apple TV. $99 hockey puck sized device that connects to your AV system via HDMI or analog connection. You can then 'mirror' your iPhone to the TV via the home network or bluetooth to show pics/videos/phone screen and play music. It also links up to your iTunes account if your are using sharing, and you can rent movies from the iTunes store as well. It also gives you access to a bunch of different internet based channels for other video options.
anotherfreak Posted March 18, 2014 Author Posted March 18, 2014 I have an SIII, and I'm pretty sure my family(any) do not have smart tv's. I have one old tv, just recent enough to have HDMI I just want to be able to do some slideshows and videos. Maybe netflix for the kids if we stay over with the g'parents. The pics and video are on my phone anyway, it looks like it's gonna have to be DVDs again. this just seems like an obvious thing to be able to "dock" your phone and use it as a part of your home system. I don't understand why some thing like this is not available???
anotherfreak Posted March 18, 2014 Author Posted March 18, 2014 I bet apple tv doesn't like Samsung phones
gorch Posted March 18, 2014 Posted March 18, 2014 Smartphones generally suck at audio streaming/playing unless you are going WAV quality streaming. If you want great quality, turn back to classic Hifi and CDs or even LP.

I don't understand why some thing like this is not available??? You're trying to hook your phone up to a TV that was made before it was. That's like me asking why my CD's don't work on my record player At any rate, if you are doing this in a house with a wifi, connection and an HDMI connection on the tv, you can use chromecast which costs about $40 http://www.amazon.com/Google-Chromecast-Streaming-Media-Player/dp/B00DR0PDNE/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1395169519&sr=8-1&keywords=chrome+cast This will let you stream, youtube, Netflix, etc... to your tv via the hdmi input. Or for less money, you can get a micro-USB-to-HDMI adapter http://www.cellphoneshop.net/s3hdmi.html?CAWELAID=1573816142&catargetid=530001600000010209&cadevice=c&cagpspn=pla&gclid=CM-17ILknL0CFVQV7AodpGoAEw You could also use the cable above with an HDMI-RGB adapter to hook up to older TV's. So, what you want to do is possible, but you might have to buy a couple different things if you need cables. - Austin Quin
anotherfreak Posted March 18, 2014 Author Posted March 18, 2014 Well, I do rip cds @ 225 or whatever the highest rate is, and I did read something somewhere about hacking(maybe ipod) to access the digital file and letting your reciever's digital converter do the conversion instead of the MP3 player in the device, but that's a different thing altogether. I am starting to think that the iphone format is more user mod-able with a documented pinout and breakout cables to make your own connections. this is all really facinating! I remember when The idea of portable audio with NO MOVING PARTS looked like a possibility(flash media) and I remember how excited I was, I know I'm late to the game(and WAY behind the cutting edge) with the smartphone, but they could really be something special here
JohnnyB Posted March 18, 2014 Posted March 18, 2014 I haven't done it myself yet, but according to CNet you need this and that. Here's the diagram from one of the vendors:
Toadroller Posted March 22, 2014 Posted March 22, 2014 I have an S3 and was able to figure out how to stream it's content (music, captured video, pictures, youTube) wirelessly through a sony dvd player, all while standing there with a martini in my hand. So it can be done.JohnnyB, I like the cable suggestion and was, coincidentally enough, on that exact settings screen the other day, thinking (wow, I could hook an HDMI cable up to this thing? Cool!)But the simplest solution for permanent installation video, music, and tv streaming is to buy a $99 blu-ray dvd player, which will give you apps to access Netflix, Pandora, Amazon Prime, Zulu, YouTube, and many others I haven't even explored. My kids simply go to Netflix and stream their Dr. Who and Top Gear. The four year old can do it.
JohnnyB Posted March 22, 2014 Posted March 22, 2014 True about YouTube and good enough for a 5-yr-old, but when you stream directly from an HD smart phone, you're usually getting 720p or 1080p HD resolution. Many YouTube videos are hopelessly crushed, and HDs are rare or nonexistent.
