ARM OF HAMER Posted August 17, 2014 Posted August 17, 2014 Well here I go again! I'm looking for a 78 Black Hamer Sunburst thats Bound and Crowned. Must be all original with no repairs [A refretted guitar would be fine though contingent on the condition of those frets] and with the OHSC.1978 Is the ONLY year I will consider and it has to be B&C................I have a 1979 Black B&C Sunburst now and the 78 is the guitar I was searching for when I got lucky and got the 79 so...................... my hair may be gray when I finally find this guitar but hey nothing ventured nothing gained as they say.May as well start here as there is no better place for Hamer Guitars.
ARM OF HAMER Posted August 18, 2014 Author Posted August 18, 2014 Thanks Match! This may prove to be a LOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG quest!
ARM OF HAMER Posted August 18, 2014 Author Posted August 18, 2014 There IS one out there. ..........................Just need to find it.................Any help will be much appreciated!

ARM OF HAMER Posted August 24, 2014 Author Posted August 24, 2014 Many Thanks to Peter! Much Appreciated!..............The quest for this guitar goes on so.......... WTB 78 Black Hamer Sunburst B&C..PM me for any guitars you have to offer along with PICs, price and details on the guitar
RichRS6 Posted August 24, 2014 Posted August 24, 2014 Did you ever find out the total number of 78's that were made in Black ?IIRC it's a pretty low number.
ARM OF HAMER Posted August 24, 2014 Author Posted August 24, 2014 Don't have any 1977 black ones (Martin Barre's 78 was supposedly the first) 1978 10 bound and crowned 17 dots 1979 43 bound and crowned 81 dots ......................all this info comes from "SERIAL" when I asked him some time ago. Thanks Steve! Something also to keep in mind is that some of the "Bound and Crowned" Sunbursts had neck issues so there may be fewer Black "Bound and Crowned"..........."SHARK's" first Black Sunburst had neck issues so he returned that guitar.............makes me wonder what Hamer did with it..............would they have repaired that guitar or?????????? l love my 1979 Black B&C Sunburst, It comes from what many consider the "Best" year. Right now I know where there are 2 Black 78 B&C Sunbursts, one IS for sale and one currently is not...............I know of one Black B&C Sunburst from 79...........indeed the only one I have personally seen and played and I own it.
it's me HHB Posted September 2, 2014 Posted September 2, 2014 I had a very early crowned bound sunburst in black. It made the rounds in western NC circa 1983. Would not play in tune, every good player in a 100 mile radius owned it hoping to solve the problem. None ever did that I know. It sold for 75 bucks in the early 90s. Don't know its whereabouts now. Get approval period if you find one, the bad ones do exist
RichRS6 Posted September 2, 2014 Posted September 2, 2014 I had an early B&C Cherry Sunburst back in 79 ish so it must have been pretty early, I recall it had the shimmed bridge, paid £350.00 for it (which was the same price I was paying for L.P's at the time), the first one I ever owned and that had the same problems, just would not stay or play in tune any where and I tried almost everything to cure it but I could not fix it so it had to go, where I can't remember, probably P/X in a store so I wouldn't feel guilty about passing it on to anyone I knew.My Black 78 plays fine.
ARM OF HAMER Posted September 3, 2014 Author Posted September 3, 2014 My current Black 1979 Hamer B&C'd Sunburst has no issues like those being mentioned, everything is fine with the neck.............no hump on the fingerboard or twist. The neck was adjusted almost straight when I got it so I gave the neck a little relief and it settled right in.......... perfect! I have done nothing else to it except to clean the body and neck........... both the neck and body were very dirty............ the guitar had not been used in years I understand so........ Maybe I just got lucky......... those early bound and crowned Sunbursts did have those issues............making them even more rare.
atomicwash Posted September 3, 2014 Posted September 3, 2014 It's got dots...https://reverb.com/item/265142-hamer-sunburst-1979-black
ARM OF HAMER Posted September 3, 2014 Author Posted September 3, 2014 That looks ALOT like Peter's guitar that he sold awhile back [i remember the part about the guitar having a brass nut also]................I believe he also sold it on REVERB.Do I have this wrong?.......................Sure looks familar.
