Gabe Posted September 3, 2015 Posted September 3, 2015 Does this 1984 Guild X-175 count as mid-eighties? Gabe
crunchee Posted September 3, 2015 Posted September 3, 2015 I once had a mid-80's Guild X-300 years ago (not to be confused with the solidbody S-300), it looked very much like the X-175, except fancier (even thicker multiply binding, gold hardware, ebony fretboard and bridge)...it was made in Waverly, RI, and workmanship and woods were fantastic; but it had a thin and narrow jazz-style neck that I didn't care much for, the body was an armful, and the whole thing was surprisingly heavy.
Montelovesco Posted September 4, 2015 Posted September 4, 2015 Speaking of tastefull Guilds...http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&alt=web&id=171887178961&globalID=EBAY-DE
motorpriest Posted September 4, 2015 Posted September 4, 2015 ...And not so tasteful sellers, unfortunately.
Steve Haynie Posted September 5, 2015 Posted September 5, 2015 Those weird shaped Guilds looked cool in the ads, but they always seemed like they would be impractical.
mhmike Posted October 28, 2015 Posted October 28, 2015 I think it looks both cool, and weird, but I also like Teisco tulip-body guitars, Steinbergers (GM series, not the Spirits or other ones) and all kinds of other weird ones.
crunchee Posted October 28, 2015 Posted October 28, 2015 I like the look/shock value of the X-79 and the bass version (X-701 and X-702), but practically every one I've ever seen has been beat up on the pointy areas (and they tend to stick WAY out), or had finish touch-ups because of that. It's NOT a small-sized guitar. Think Standard/Blitz/Explorer with a growth condition.
Jakeboy Posted October 29, 2015 Posted October 29, 2015 Joe Perry was rocking a T250 back in the 80s that I really dug.
