salem Posted December 27, 2005 Posted December 27, 2005 Hi. There is a huge article and interview in Guitar World in which Page and White are featured talking together. Does Jack White belong in this company? Is he a guitarist, writer and producer on the level of a Jimmy Page? If not, why would Page even agree to acknowledge him in this way? Page must respect White tremendously to do this, right?
Travis Posted December 27, 2005 Posted December 27, 2005 No, he's not.And Jimmy likes exposure and money.
MCChris Posted December 27, 2005 Posted December 27, 2005 First off, any magazine is gonna do whatever moves the most copies, and this should be a good seller: rock icons from two different generations, the inherent controversy of putting a classic rock god alongside a modern anti-hero, etc. That said, I saw the White Stripes on some awards show a few years back and Jack's slide work was very reminiscent of Page's earlier stuff. So no, I don't think this article is a reach at all.
pesocaster Posted December 27, 2005 Posted December 27, 2005 I'll give Jack white a ton of respect after hearing Van Lear Rose.... Killer album... IMO!

The story about Bonzo Bonham was great as well.
cmatthes Posted December 27, 2005 Posted December 27, 2005 Or why not just ask Jimmy himself? I know you feel that the HFC is the Oracle to which you must pose all your deepest musings, but I don't think that any of us are qualified to answer for how HE feels about the subject.

Yea, bright idea, I'll ask Jimmy myself. Any more great suggestions?

salem Posted December 27, 2005 Author Posted December 27, 2005 I've read the entire article. What does that have to do with the question? The only critical reply that would make sense would be to listen to the White Stripes' music, which I've done. Hence, the thread.Brighten up fellows.

No one knows what Jimmy really thinks other than him. And the article speaks for itself of their mutual admiration so maybe you should re-read it and try to comprehend it this time.
