The Hamer of mattress sets?

Man I miss the old mattresses - lasted 20 yrs and they were still comfortable to the point you could get a decent rest on 'em.  I've had to buy two sets for wifey and I in the last 8 yrs (one Sealy, one Serta) and they both sucked ($800 for one, $1,200 for the other) - retain heat, body indentations after a few months, sore neck/back, etc.

We're now desperately needing another so how/where do you buy a good one these days?

No reason not to try, except that it's a total pain in the ass to repackage a mattress to ship it back...

You don't actually package it up and ship it back. I tried out a memory foam mattress 6-7 years ago from a different company and didn't like it. The way returns for that company functioned is that they would call a local organization to come and pick it up from you (so they essentially donate the mattress). In our case, they didn't have a local place that could do that, so they just refunded our money and told us to keep the mattress. I listed it on Craigslist as a free mattress for anyone that wanted to come pick it up and a day later it was gone. Super easy. Purple's returns function the exact same way. But I imagine that at this point, many years later, there will actually be a local organization that can come get the mattress.

My girlfriend bought herself a new mattress about a year ago. I spend the weekends at her place and it is the most comfortable mattress I have slept and laid on. It is very firm so may not be for everyone. I will ask her the make and model. I will also ask the other guys that sleep on it when I'm not there and get there opinions.

Our Tempur-Pedic (king) is easily the best night's sleep I've ever had - no issues at all.  Unless your getting in or out of bed quickly or jumping around like our kids, you can't feel your spouse moving in bed at night - at all - so that's another thing that won't wake you up during the night.

I've gotten so used to sleeping on it, I dread at how bad the hotel beds might be comparatively. when we travel.

My only experience with a foam mattress was on a 9 month project.

I slept on the same mattress at the same Inn 5 days a week from January to August.

I hated it it because as soon as I payed down I sunk in about 1/2".

They said the beds were that expensive memory foam.

That was 2012, and I'm sure mattress tech has gotten better, but I'm still hesitant.

In six months our memory foam had permanent soft spots, so I keep rolling to the same spot/position. I hate it now, and it was really expensive too!

I have a sleep number bed and it's alright.  It's a balloon, so permanent dips and such are a non-issue...  you just add air.  One nice side benefit is that it's easy to pick up and move when you're changing sheets, etc.

That said, we have the pillow-topped King model and there is a noticeable dip between the two sides when they're both inflated to fairly high levels.    I think with the smaller sizes you have the option of one or two separate zones.  In hindsight, I'd do a single zone.  I'd also get a lofted bed so that I could reclaim the floor space in that room for something else (office, hobbies, reading). :)
