Hamer Holoskull ! I've been looking for this guitar forever. If anyone knows where to find it, please , let me know. I wanted it for a long time now. And finally this is the time when I can pay for it. So , whoever might have one, try me !

There were a few up for sale early last year, but I haven't seen anything recently. There aren't a lot of them out there, so they don't come cheap! Two of the last 3-4 I recall seeing for sale went for over $2k.

Several members here have 'em though and you may get lucky!

Good Luck! I've been ready to pay for a Set-Neck Cali for a while, but there just aren't that many out there (much like Holoskulls). Jem had someone do a sweet hollowskull refin for him; maybe you could buy a Cali Elite and go that route if you don't feel like waiting.

Yeah, i was looking for ages - missed one that Peter picked up for around $1200 (next one came up around $1650) so took a $420 Cali and got Darren Horton (google him) to paint me a replica. One thing is he copied the one from the 'Action / Reaction' catalogue and the detailings much better than the stock production ones.

PS I'd post a pic but it's too large and i'm crap with picture programs !

Jem:

Stupid question, but what did that run ya?

Hi Chris,

Not that stupid a question at all. Darren charged me 200Gbp which would be around the $350Usd mark. Saying that i think he did me a bit of a deal as he was going crazy painting crash helmets all the time as everythings on the curve and wanted to broaden his customer base using my guitar as an example.

Jem

I just checked his site and there's stilla picture of the body in his gallery - always did mean to take a decent picture for him...doh !

Just looked at the painting. Nice job. But I'm guessing that those little skulls are also painted, so they are not holographic. And the big skull itself kinda strange. kramer1.jpg

You won't find Holograms good enough - well i couldn't, so Darren mixed some phospher in with the paint so they glow in the dark ! The skull is fairly acurate compared to the catalogue original but i asked him to do it in his style as it is a replica and i'm not trying to kid anyone. Keep in mind that these were all hand airbrushed which is why the detail isn't pehaps as complete on some production one's.

Don't get me wrong. Still a beautiful job.

I just came across some round kids glasses in a 99c store . They do not have holographic skulls, but have pretty cool looking holographic popping out eyes. :) So I picked up 5 of them keeping im mind that may be some day I'll do something with them. May be somewhere there are the same glasses with skulls, got to look for them closer to helloween i guess. I'm going nuts over here.

I'm sure Jem will correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think you can just use any old holograms for the holoskull finish because most won't stand up to the finishing process.

Well, finishing is not a problem, once the paint and inserts are there ( inserts I mean holo plastics, and they should sit tight with the glue and all) they could be covered with several layers of a base coat, that is not strong, something like Parks sealer, it sands beautiful , and after a couple of days you can even polish it, it's very transparent and does not affect natural color of paint or wood, and after that just apply several coats of some laquer, prefferably nitrocellulose. I've done some inlay and marketry work be4, just do not have time for it anymore. Some day may be I'll take some old cali and try to do something, most likely 30 yesrs from now. What kind of life is it anyway, when u do not have time to do what u like...

Didn't some of the hollow skulls have issues with the holograms coming apart under the finish? Or is my memory shot (yeah, I'm old).....?

Austin, your right. We did try some of the 'kiddie' one's and they didn't like nitro one little bit. We did try to seal them with various things but as nitro is applied it burns in and they all turned to mush also they looked very weak compared to the originals. Also 'Justkid', i'm in a gigging band so mine is not in a glass case encouraging scrutiny and the plus side is i do actually gig it whereas an original i wouldn't for worry of dinging it. Anyway, if you've got $2000 spare just sit tight and one will come up one day.

Jem

Greggie, i'm still here just not a lot for me to comment on !
