Any love for the Reverend Manta Ray?

Hmm...double cut, binding, inlays, nice maple top, korina body, medium c neck carve and the price point isn't bad at all.  What about that bass contour knob - works in addition to the tone knob?  What's that about?  Seems like a working man's guitar.  What do you think?

No connection with the seller of that one, just thought the guitar looked cool.

My brother has two Reverends and loves them. I had a Reverend Reeves Gabrels for about a month. Well made, typical Korean high quality, bass roll-off control is really nice. The sound was good… didn't really rock my world one way or another, but they put jumbo frets on every guitar, which I didn't like. I didn't think I was such a delicate little flower but big frets just feel weird to me and it wasn't so amazing it was worth a re-fret.

I played a Manta Ray a few years ago and it felt and sounded very nice, but the Reverend that I am lusting for (and will have) is the Rick Vito RT

I've played a handful and haven't found anything special, but nothing to complain about either.

The Double Agent (http://www.reverendguitars.com/instrument/double-agent-iii/) is one I'd like to try.  I was lusting after a Volcano (V) for a while too.

This one seems a little Hamer-y what with the quasi op-art graphics and whatnot:

Have an Asheton Signature, which is a Vulcano (V) that is all korina with 3 P90s.  Big, slightly tapered neck.  Sounds great but I wanted the bridge to be a bit beefier.  Was torn about changing it up tho.  Still on the fence.

Absolutely great guitar for the money.

I have a Sensei - massive korina body, huge, fat neck, and a standard maple flame top.  I'm calling a top because it is fairly early in the history of the line when the veneer was more substantial - like 1/8".  Adds discernible snap without overpowering.  I understand they are super thin veneers now, which I would probably prefer, but this one's not going anywhere.  Anyway, it has a huge sound - big round notes like a fat hollow body tone, with the sustain and sweetness of a solid.  Love the body shape, but cannot stand block inlays.  They took one of the sexiest body shapes I've seen and put huge pearloid rectangles on the neck.  Disturbs the feng shui.. hehehe.  Not a fan of Reverend pups or the bass contour thing either, so that whole thing is gone, but the tone drips on.

Mine plays okay, it's not a 'wow' player by any means, but it's not a noticeable thing unless I pick up a Hamer first, then you realize there is a lack of polish or maybe refinement, or even quality.  Fantastic Korean guitar though.

Fun guitars, I think.

Peace
