WTT: 2005 SG '61 RI for Newport with Bigsby

I'm sure this is a long shot, but what the heck. I thought I'd be making this offer for a Phantom with a trem, but I think a Newport is a better fit for me and my band.

My '61RI is in great condition with only a few clear coat dents here and there. 500k pots with PIO caps. Stock 57 pickups, which sound great. Kind of an odd duck as it has an ABR-1 bridge with Nashville studs. I want to say I've heard of this setup before, and the previous owner says he never changed it, so I'll give it a qualified "I don't know if it's stock or not".  PO put on a "Les Paul" TRC (I almost called him a bunch of dirty names when he sent me pics thinking it was a Chibson!)

Gibson "Slim Profile" neck that's a tad larger than some of the one's I've had in the past. I had another 2005 RI and this one is definitely bigger than that one. You won't confuse it for the rounded profile found on the SG Stds, though. Gibson USA case still has the little red thingy in the combination lock and is in excellent condition. Dunlop straplocks included if your Newport has Dunlops.

Looking for a Newport with a Bigsby and ideally Phat Cats. My SG Classic with a B3 has turned out to be my #1 player in this band, so I'd like something within that flavor profile. I'd mod this '61RI, but my preferences these days are more towards the larger profile necks.

Not interested in selling and not really interested in anything but a Newport.

For those who don't know me since I don't post much these days, I've been a member of the HFC since 2000 and have done plenty of deals with more members than you can shake half a twenty at.

More pics on request.

Thanks.

a very simple, easy mod(Ream out the abr-1 one post holes).

I do it all the time for clients who want that ABR-1 tone on a TOM setup.

Not stock, but a great mod.

You're right. I pulled it a minute ago and you can see that it was drilled. Clean job, too. I didn't notice it the first time I looked. Gibson ABR-1 bridge. I think the only reason I might have thought it could be original was that it was right after they changed from ABR-1 to Nashville on the SGs.

Whats the advantage of the ABR over the tom?

Beside it looking better and more period correct for a '61 RI, I like that you can bring the tailpiece all the way down.

The ABR-1 has a "jangle" tone to it (?) it's a vintage thing I guess.

Where as the TOM is a more "modern" tone. A lil thicker, solid tone.

(Gibson went with the TOM when they moved to nashville.

Tooling was off for the ABR, resulting in off intonation, the TOM has a lil more bridge travel)
