Wanted: MIJ Les Paul

I'd like to get a Japanese LP copy. I see them on eBay all the time, but most are shipped FROM Japan. I thought maybe someone here might have one for sale.

I don't have one for sale, but a company here in Houston had a few several years ago. I got a CSB LS-75Q while my friend got a black LS-60. They each came in a Tokai box which I have kept for some reason all these years.

Good news.

I am a big fan of them, have 6 assorted, incl. Orville/Gibson, Epi. Elitist, Greco, Yamaha, and ESP Edwards.

One of the very best of them, a near-mint 1980 Yamaho "Studio Lord" SL550 is on consignment with BCR Greg (BCR Music & Sound.) I sent it out recently, and as far as I know it is still available.

Reason for sale is that it has a 60's thin/wide neck profile, and I have come to prefer as fat a neck as possible, like the late 50's LP Customs. This Studio Lord is dimensionally correct, maple top on 2-piece mahogany body, weighs under 9 lbs., has the Gibson "open book headstock" (resulted in lawsuit, Yamaha had to change shape on later models) It has full cream binding, body & neck, double-cream Bill Lawrence humbuckers, with coil-splitting (push-push) tone controls. Sounds just like Frank Marino's SG when the coils are split, and like Gary Moores LP otherwise. Totally rewired, frets dressed, full Tone Pros chrome hardware and set up, by BCR Greg. Under $1,000 incl. new Gib. HSC. It is a beauty, I think I have some pics I can email to you if you want to see, before contacting Greg.

Or, depending on what you are looking for, I may let one of the others go also, because I'm trying to raise funds for a new acquisition....

Thanks guys! That's funny, I was just looking at a Studio Lord 400. I also found that MF is selling the Epi Elitist for $699 delivered.

Unfortunately, I also like fatter necks. Guitfiddler, if you're serious about the possibility of selling one of the others, please tell me about them.

If you're trolling on the 'Bay check out Hisashi and a nother guy called guitarjapan (IIRC).

I'm sure Hisashi has plenty of MIJ stuff.

Packs & ships correctly & his suff isn't too expensive.

(caveat: I am in no way associated with the guy, who happens to live all the way in japland)

I'm also looking for a special cheapo which I'll gut and turn into a Peter Green thingy for demos and such...

G'luck!

Thanks JJ Paul, I'll check into that as well. However, I just got a lead on a 1978 Greco Les Paul Standard Clone in Cherryburst for under $600. It's all original, but I'm not sure if that's a good thing.

Let me know which of these in my collection might be of interest, and I'll give more detailed info if desired, & take pics if you wish. I'll part with one of them at a reasonable cost, if you'd like.

1. Early 90's "Orville by Gibson" LP CUSTOM in rare transparent crimson finish, with gold hardware - think Peter Frampton's 'Black Beauty,' but in a (very attractive) transp. red. LP Custom headstock w/split-diamond inlay. Two-piece maple top on mahogany, with 1-pc. mahogany neck. Chunky rounded '59 neckprofi Has 5-ply binding everywhere, gold-covered Gib. USA p/ups, B-W-B pickguard. Excel. cond., about 9.5 lbs. Set-up & ready to go.

2. Early 90's "Orville" (Gibson authorized) LP Custom 'Black Beauty.' Black with gold hardware, 5-ply ivory/black binding everywhere. LP Custom headstock, w/split-diamond inlay. About 9.5 lbs., totally rewired incl. WCR Filmores (special-ordered w/gold covers,) USA pots, Switchcraft switch & jack. Set up & ready to go. Near-mint cond.

3. Mid 90's Greco "Super Real" LP Custom, rare Ace Frehley style. 5-ply binding everywhere. Chunky round neck shape, 1-pc. mahogany neck. Fancy headstock w/split-diamond inlay. '59 style Cherry burst on maple topped mahogany, 3 double-cream pickups (Orig., high quality) with USA grade pots & wiring. Excel. cond., a few insignificant chips & doinks here & there, none into the wood. About 9 lbs.

4. Mid- 90's Epi Elite '57 Gold top. Cream binding & pickguard, keystone tuners. Made in Japan for Japan market only (has the Gib. LP headstock, vs. Epi style.)

Bone nut, 1-pc. mahogany neck, semi-chunky '57 profile. About 9.5 lbs.

This one is a work-in-process, no pickups installed at present. Orig's. p/ups had been replaced, non-covered. I'm in process of deciding on which (nickel-covered) I want to install. We can work somethinmg out if you want it in this stage, or pick your p/ups, we'll work out a price, and I'll install them and do full setup.

5. 2004 ESP "Edwards" '56 gold top, made in Japan for Jap. market (has Gib. style headstock.) Cream binding, pickguard & p/ups. USA Seymour Duncan (factory installed) vintage-style P-90's with USA grade pots and most impeccable (Hamer-like) build quality. Mint... as new.

6. 2005 ESP "Edwards" '57 style flame-maple (photo flame maple) top LP, in unusually pretty orangish-cherry '59 burst. Made for Jap. market only, as it has Gib. headstock shape. Pics readily available of this one. Two open coil (each blk & wht.) USA Duncan p/ups ('59 & JB), orig. equip. Medium profile '57ish C -contour neck. Mint cond., and also over-all of Hamer-grade quality and workmanship. I am MOST impressed with these ESP LP's, for the money.

Well, I'm about to pull the trigger on the 1978 Greco I found. I really like it! But, I'm also interested in the Greco you have, guitfiddler. Could you send me a pic or two and the all-important number (price B) )?

If you can buy an Epi LP Elitist from MF for 699., that would be my first move....without a doubt. I had no idea the price had dropped that far since the last time I looked. They had been just under a grand with case.

If you like the '78 Greco and can snag it for under 600.00, I'd say go for it ....unless the fretboard needs planing or it needs a neck reset or re-fret job. I paid $600. or more (incl. EMS shipping from Japan) for each of mine, before spending $200. or so to upgrade the pickups & wiring, replace hardware, replace a destroyed nut (on half of them) because someone had done a "butcher job" that didn't show up in the pics. Therefore, since mine have all been upgraded and correctly restored where necessary, I'd have to ask $850. for one of the Orvilles, or the Greco, ($750. for one of the Edwards, plus HSC if wanted) which is probably more than you are looking to invest.

Let me know what you get though..... I'm always interested.
