Michael_B Posted April 10, 2017 Posted April 10, 2017 I just noticed a set of strings labeled "Optimized for Dropped D." Beyond the obvious- the face value- what does it mean for strings to "optimized for dropped D"? Is it anything more than marketing nonsense?
velorush Posted April 10, 2017 Posted April 10, 2017 Could it mean the largest string has a larger than typical core (beneath the winding) resulting in relatively higher tension? Absolute guess assuming it is anything other than marketing hype.
Ting Ho Dung Posted April 16, 2017 Posted April 16, 2017 Bottom strings are larger so they have more tension. So instead of the 6th string being 46 or so they can be 50 - 52. I really like the set I picked up from Ernie Ball. I think they are called Fat Bottoms.
