BadgerDave Posted May 17, 2017 Posted May 17, 2017 Like new condition 2013 Gibson 50's Tribute SG. Interesting model from Gibson since there were obviously no SGs made in the 1950s. The 50's designation refers to the big 50's profile neck, which is really hard to find on an SG. Black nitro finish, semi-gloss that appears to be very thin. I bought the body "husk" and added all hardware. It is new, not a factory second and has no defects. The bridge, tailpiece and control knobs are all standard Gibson branded parts as Gibson would have installed at the factory. The tuners are Grover. Upgrades from stock: I added a custom pick guard and did a full set-up, including dressing the frets, hand rolling the fretboard edges and polishing the fretboard. The pickups are from a Gibson Historic R6 with new covers. The pots and wiring are much better quality than stock Gibson and I used Mojotone capacitors. it plays beautifully and can be set up with very low action without buzzing. I've played it just to make sure everything works properly. It's very resonant with great sustain - a blast to play loud! Weight is under 7 lbs. (6 lb., 14.6 oz.) A new Gibson deluxe gig bag is included $650.00 shipped. It has a rosewood fretboard, so U.S. only.
Hfan Posted May 18, 2017 Posted May 18, 2017 That is sweet, a no brainer. If I didn't have that base and too many others covered, and if I was not mid downsize mode, I'd be all over it. And a 50's neck??
Punkavenger Posted May 18, 2017 Posted May 18, 2017 And that price! Seriously ... If I hadnt just spent $3500 on gear in the last few months ...
BadgerDave Posted May 22, 2017 Author Posted May 22, 2017 Monday bump. This really is an outstanding guitar. Don't let the name on the headstock scare you off.
Thundersteel Posted June 25, 2017 Posted June 25, 2017 I had one of those in a burst finish--those are rawkin' machines!
