Biz Prof Posted November 30, 2017 Posted November 30, 2017 Never played one, but the ones I've seen didn't do much to motivate me to try them, either. Camstone's 12'er looks very nice and the Schenker V is appealing, too. When I think of the brand, I usually visualize ones like the psuedo-Lester "Starplayer" that Zorrow posted. IMHO, the racing stripes and art deco cues just don't work with a traditional solidbody LP vibe. It's too many different aesthetic elements in combination.

But unlike this Epiphone he'll never play live, the high profile pros I was referring to actually play Duesenbergs and regularly.
cynic Posted November 30, 2017 Posted November 30, 2017 I was just going for the laugh. I've heard only one Deusenberg live -- a Starplayer TV played by Adam Lester on the Frampton FCA 35 tour -- and it sounded fine.
Pieman Posted December 1, 2017 Author Posted December 1, 2017 The guys at Andertons discuss the company and then play four models. While they are positive about parts, quality and finish, they also lay out some negative comments on the shiney, black LP type ('59er) is described as "spiritless" (10:30) and too derivative, and "too perfect"(?).
Frogburger Posted December 2, 2017 Posted December 2, 2017 I have a couple (Starplayer TV, Dragster and Starplayer Bass). I got them cheap. They are cool instruments, but I wouldn't have paid full price for one. For some reason, they are more expensive in the US than in Europe or Japan (but prices have been catching up lately).
gtone Posted December 2, 2017 Posted December 2, 2017 I think the problem with my experience with them is that, at the time, the shop owner asked me what type of guitars I was currently playing. Having told him that I preferred older Gibsons and Hamers, he set me up with several Duesenbergs in their isolated amp room telling me that I'd soon forget my guitars once I heard/played his. After 40 mins with the four, he asked my honest opinion of them. I told him that they were fine but seemed somewhat lifeless compared to the old Gibsons and Hamers i'd bought for less than half the price. I really need a guitar to sing and resonate in the right ways before it inspires me to play it and the Duesenbergs I played that day just didn't have that going for them, glitzy as the were. Just didn't do it for me, but then that's just a subjective thing, really. I know plenty of guys that get inspired by a guitar's looks and that's fine if that's more important to them than what I dig.
