Drum kit software recommendations.

I like EZ  Drummer 2 for quick, easy song creation.  You can tap in a pattern and it will search its groove libraries to find a match.  You can add new kits and styles to it as well.  If you can wait it out, they fairly frequently offer deals for the base software plus an expansion kit.  Sweetwater has that deal now - $150 for EZD2 plus one expansion pack.

This isn’t free... but it’s not that expensive easy to use and sounds awesome! It’s actuall simon Phillips playing his kit with individual tracks for kick snare toms highhat etc. I’ve used this for years to get demo’s done. You could possibly find a used one cheap. Super simple find the rythm you want drag it in and it synchs it’s self to the time signature. Saves a lot of time!!

What version of the loops do you use that they automatically sync?

I don’t have it with me now but they’re a CD that have small sections of loops. For really quick stuff I use the CD with the drums premixed and panned to stereo. For more in depth tracks I use the multiple mic’d CD. I use Cubase and select a begining point on a track select which drum loop and drag it in. Always sets it’s self up to the tempo of the song.

Thanks. Not sure if Logic or ProTols do that automatically. I can adjust the time, but I think the quality suffers if it’s too much of a change

I have a ton of drum loop files I can share. they are designed for Garageband and LOgic but they are just sound files and can be used in any DAW.  Just not as quickly nor have all the features.  Let me know, I'll burn you a DVD and bring it over one afternoon.

Sennheisers’ DrumMica for Kontakt Player. It’s a free extensively sampled original drum set that includes a complete mixing console for sound mixing. Very cool and powerful. Sennheiser provide some ready made templates for individual download. I have downloaded them all if someone is interested. Also comes with a uge set of midi based loop files for almost any genre. Pretty much ready to go.

Native Instruments Abbey Road 70s Drummer is what I use as a midi kit. Sounds like the real deal. NI did have all the decade AR drums on sale as a package for $99.

‘I want to try the 80s Drummer next for the heavier tones. Drums were big in the hair metal heyday.

Thanks for the tip - going to have to look this up now.

I have the 70s and 80s Abbey Road Drummer.  I bought the 80s for the Octabons.  The drums sound great.  I need to spend more time w/the MIDI grooves and getting things like the EZ Drummer MIDIs mapped to the Abbey Road kits.

I have Sennheisers DrumMica and it is pretty cool.  I got in on a group buy years ago on KVR.com for the infinite player from Sonic Reality.     They don't sell he infinite player anymore but the drums sounded great.  It works through Kontact player.   IKMultimedia has Sampletank which can play drum samples. There are free and low cost versions.  It also can play many other instruments.

Perfect drum is another fairly low cost example.
