There's something about the live recording of this that gives me chills and makes me cry -- I burst into tears all the time when this comes on it lays me out so emotionally with a certain kind of joy.

That was so cool ... thanks for posting!

It’s great to see and hear someone properly appreciate Frampton. He’s one of my fave guitarists. Listening to this video reminds me I should have paid closer attention (well, I guess there’s still time:)).
Definitely spinning Frampton Comes Alive tonight.

1. Perhaps most importantly, it's a song that wives or girlfriends of folks like us can enjoy, particularly at a concert. If a good time is had by all, that's a type of bonus, in most scenarios. Hell, the Missus surprised me at one PF show ca. 2013 by really getting into the extended jam of "(I'll Give You) Money", for that matter.

2. It's an unusual/non-standard chord progression for rock songs, plus it modulates around different keys a good bit. More complicated than a lotta folks (including snide music critics) think. PF would rather be a respected musician than a pop star.

3. The squawk box usage became the definitive example/industry standard; a sonic template, if you will...although I loved Joe Walsh & Barnstorm's live version of "Rocky Mountain Way" on ABC's "In Concert" almost a half-century ago....

4. It's one long song that doesn't get boring because of the way the solos are interspersed (not just one careening into other) but it still gets into a great groove.

5. Tremendous ending passage. Right after PF bellows "Whoooaaaa!" thru the squawk box and the entire band crashes back in, it's difficult to resist banging yer head, even in a milder manner than you would with, say, a Judas Priest song.

I watched that video a few weeks ago and thoroughly enjoyed it.  It made me appreciate DYFLWD even more than I already did.  Beato has developed a nice relationship with Frampton, and got the inside scoop on the song.

I was surprised at Beato’s keyboard-player friend’s take on Bob Mayo’s piano solo.  It was always “just” the keyboard solo in between guitar stuff, but the video made me realize how monstrously talented Mayo was.  The same goes for Siomos and Sheldon.

I love it when Rick Beato gets out of his music theory analysis mode and just goes all geeky fan boy.  He plays the sloppiest air drums of all time.
