"59" Neck Carve

Question

Been lookin' around for a nice beefy neck carve LP style lately, but without the neck heel that Gibson uses. Theirs are a turn off for me 'cause I like upper fret access.  What was or is a real "59" Neck Carve ?  They seem to vary in size from the different guitars I'm lookin' at which claim to have that style. Did the real "59" LP's vary in neck size like Hamer due to hand carving ?

In '59 I was chasing garter snakes not measuring guitar necks. So I really don't know.

The answer is yes, they varied. No CNC's back then, so nothing was identical.

My experience with the Gibson '59 neck carve is limited to the custom shop reissues.  I've owned a few and played many at guitar shops over the years.  I've noticed that Gibson changed the R9 neck profile pretty dramatically around 2018-19, making it thinner, with a slightly more V than C shape near the headstock.  According to Gibson this is more accurate to the originals.

I have owned two genuine '59 LP Juniors and a '59 Special.  The necks on all three were much thicker than any R9 LP Standard I've played.

This was my experience as well.

My '59 TV Junior had a larger neck (and with an ever-so-soft V to it) than any R9 or '59 Reissue I've played.
