mrjamiam Posted October 22, 2021 Posted October 22, 2021 I'm sure they have great t-shirts, but they say "all original" and I see a zebra in the bridge and no double cream and I start to doubt.

ARM OF HAMER Posted October 23, 2021 Posted October 23, 2021 For that kind of $$$ I would have picked this 1978 Hamer Sunburst and added the extra cash.Hamer Sunburst Vintage 1978 Cherry Burst w Original Factory Hardshell Case & FAST Shipping | Main Stage Music | Reverb
BadgerDave Posted October 27, 2021 Posted October 27, 2021 That's a nice looking Sunburst, but I wouldn't be paying close to $3K to a seller that makes idiotic statements like: The only modifications appear to be a new strap button, and a professionally and tactfully installed sweet switch, likely for tapping the humbuckers. The flame maple top has a beautiful subtle flame characteristic of vintage Michigan Maple. Which I interpret as, "somebody added a mini-switch and we can't be bothered to figure out what it does" and "There's not much flame in the veneer."

I agree that the sellers description [Or price] does not always match the guitar but that is the sellers fault not the guitar. And some sellers feel the need to inject hyperbole to sell a guitar when they really don't need to do that. This is a cool guitar so yeah there is that element here but when was the last time you saw a 1978 Bound & Crowned Hamer "Sunburst"? And who knows what this really brought in terms of actual sale price.
crunchee Posted October 28, 2021 Posted October 28, 2021 High-falutin' hyperbole don't do much for selling a guitar to us who have heard craploads of it before. Unfortunately, that don't stop sellers from trying. As always, the Devil is in the details. Or lack thereof.
BadgerDave Posted October 28, 2021 Posted October 28, 2021 I'd be much more inclined to buy the Sunburst in the OP's post. Compare the description provided by the seller: In good condition, serial number 0 1458. Several dings, chips and scrapes throughout the guitar and on the headstock. Moderate weather checking, finish on headstock has been eaten away from guitar hanger reaction. Neck has slight bit of relief but plays great, frets show very little wear. All original and a great player guitar, comes with original case. 7lb 15oz If the neck profile and depth measurements at the 1st and 12th fret were added this would be a perfect description. I immediately trust this seller. I assume that anyone blathering about "subtle flame characteristic of vintage Michigan maple" will send me a guitar with undisclosed issues. Like the Ric 660 I just bought that arrived with a repaired flip top headstock and a sanded neck dyed with (as far as I can tell) black Sharpie.

That would be on the way back to the seller if it were me. Regarding the "Sunburst" people like straight talk w/o the "Plays like Butter" descriptions and yeah it can be a turn off and do just the opposite as intended as far as you selling the guitar. Like I said some people feel the need to do this and that does turn people off. Really I would be happy with either guitar at a price that was agreeable to both seller and buyer. This RICK? that is a awful repair by any standards
