Jon C Posted October 13, 2023 Posted October 13, 2023 Saw this one go up for sale on Reverb. Wondering what is going on with the body between the neck pickup and fretboard. https://reverb.com/item/74437812-hamer-usa-chaparral-custom-natural-mahogany-1987-w-gig-bag Messaged the seller asking if neck was original to the body....no answer. Hmmm Comments/theories? Nice looking guitar, for sure. (Somewhere, there is a place where a million tremolo backplates and truss rod covers have ended up)
scottcald Posted October 13, 2023 Posted October 13, 2023 Looks nice, guessing they didn't make any that weren't painted, so a resin, but I don't know. That is weird that one bare wood spot. Looks like something purposely done or something.

Hoping someone here has an idea of what would cause that.
Hamer95USA Posted October 13, 2023 Posted October 13, 2023 The guitar looks good, but am wondering if the original factory finish has been stripped off by its previous owners? It's also a bummer that that the OHSC isn't included in the sale as the guitar is a neck through and it only has a gig bag. If it had the 5 way switch instead of the 3 mini switches for the pickups and have the original finish on it, I would buy it. It's a bummer when people mod guitars like this and then try to sell it.

stonge Posted October 13, 2023 Posted October 13, 2023 that's the end of the maple neck where it was glued into the (mahogany?) body.

If you were to remove the pickup it would continue. I hope I'm correct and this helps. HamRex

HamRex So this might be a "neck thru" situation or removing the pickup would show the maple neck deeper towards the back of the guitar? Have you seen this on any other Chaparral? BTW: The seller did respond and said basically the same thing. Now I am wondering if this was standard for set neck Cnaps back then.

Just a glue in maple neck. This is my 87 Chaparral with a Floyd. You should be able to see the tighter grain and lighter shade from Maple on neck while the Mahogany body has a larger grain and darker. Again the same for my 91 Studio with a Tremolo. Both have flame maple tops covering the neck joint on top so no maple showing. Just glued in necks. There are a few Sold Chaparrals on Reverb that were refinished and the person stained or painted the maple showing.
