Cboss Posted March 10, 2024 Posted March 10, 2024 Can anyone recommend a good material for this? Something that would fill a small cavity or gouge on an ebony fingerboard that could be worked/sanded flat and finished
Dave Scepter Posted March 10, 2024 Posted March 10, 2024 Find/buy a small chunk of ebony "local guitar store may have a spare ebony tuning peg laying around"... make a pile of powder buy sanding it over sandpaper... clean area thoroughly, fill hole, level with a razor blade, use/drip "thin" CA glue... sand to level... it may take a couple/few tries to build up area
Hackubus Posted March 11, 2024 Posted March 11, 2024 There's also this stuff. https://www.stewmac.com/luthier-tools-and-supplies/supplies/finishing-supplies/fillers-and-putties/gluboost-fill-n-finish/ Fill 'n Finish Original Black is perfect for black peghead and ebony bridge and fingerboard repairs. Fill n' Finish Black is deliberately semi-transparent for ultimate flexibility. Add MasterTint Black for more density of color.
Hbom Posted March 27, 2024 Posted March 27, 2024 Worked in gun shops as a kid, we would fix dings and gauges in gunstocks with burned in shellac. BURN-IN STICKS | Page 1 of 1 (shellac.net)
