To be fair, that's not a terrible upgrade (the battery box placement is pretty cool imho) and the price seems reasonable to me. Centauras are not popular, but they sell used for about the same as new Indonesian shredders that typically get upgraded with better trems, pickups, etc. It's funny that the Diablos with the single-piece necks go for more than the Centauras which typically have the three-piece necks. I know they are undervalued because I have two that I've tried selling, and as they say "I'd have to tie a steak to them to even get a dog to pay attention to them".

I have one and I love it, it's got a particularly great feel to the neck/fingerboard for some reason.. very high quality guitar and I'm glad it came my way

Do yours have the translucent finishes?

Yikes. Looks like I’ll wait to post my Centaura FS until after this thread gets buried back 2 or 3 pages. Thanks a BUNCH, stonge!

I think $1300 is a pretty reasonable price for the quality you're getting especially compared to what's coming in from Mexico or overseas. I think they should be worth more (my Ibanez Jems from the mid to late 80s sell for $4K and I don't think they are twice as good, but celebrity endorsements and good marketing usually help the brand even in used sales).

Eclipses and Centauras are some of the least popular Hamers (apologies Rob if you're trying to sell an Eclipse too). It finally looks like P90 Specials and Diablos are starting to fetch better prices and crawling their way out of the Hamer sales doghouse.

I have an iridescent maple-neck Centaura with OBLs, and a Centaura Deluxe in sunburst (just like the Centaura in the reverb ad). I'd have to sell both of them to buy a MIM telecaster that's probably half as good as either Hamer lol. Ain't worth selling for that.

Rosewood or ebony fingerboard on the iridescent one?

Maple fingerboard with jumbo frets. Doesn't look like it was refretted. Figure I'll just throw some other pickups in there; the OBL plastic covers all have cracks in them.

A 'stacked' humbucker like a Dimarzio HS2 or 3 would have been a good solution.  I had a late '80s Jem, among the many guitars I should have kept, sold it a few years ago for $1800. Certainly not a better guitar than my Hamers, and the neck was so thin it seems it might break at any moment, not really a versatile guitar imo.  The Centaura really is a great 'super strat': strat tones at the neck and middle, and rock at the bridge.

Stonge: isn't it the Centaura that has the one piece neck?, not the Diablo?  My Centaura is 1 pc.  I bought a new Diablo once, did not bond with it at all.

You are correct - I checked my 2 Centauras and a Diablo, and they are all one-piece necks. At this age I might not be a reliable data source anymore lol. Memory is an intermittent function.

You are in good company, my friend.
