cswilder Posted May 25, 2005 Posted May 25, 2005 Yeah, that's a bit stupid. He's just trying to recoup the cost of selling/paypal. What I do with those guys is email them ahead of time to make sure they're ok with me emailing them my own shipping label for then to print, affix and drop off. Chris
Gabe Posted May 25, 2005 Posted May 25, 2005 I have always paid about $100 or a bit more for shipping of a guitar (and case)from the USA to Europe. USPS is the best for that IMHO. The seller of the next item asks for $150. That seems a bit steep. http://cgi.ebay.nl/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewIt...7324905769&rd=1 Gabe
BCR Greg Posted May 25, 2005 Posted May 25, 2005 Just to play devil's advocate...It takes time to properly prepare a guitar for shipping, and some folks don't have boxes. The local UPS store charged a buddy of mine $75 to ship a guitar to Ga from Pa.Don't bee too hard on some of these folks until you know more. Catch them f*cking you and open fire, but make sure they are F*cking you first.
Moose Posted May 25, 2005 Posted May 25, 2005 Am I the only one who read this?"Free fedex ground shipping in the USA is included. If you want faster service or insurance, you will need to pay the addidtional charge"Looks like he'll upcharge you to use something other than fedex ground, or something like that. It is confusing, but one email to the guy can clear that all up.
Turdus Posted May 25, 2005 Posted May 25, 2005 I've shipped quite a few guitars. I am going to guess close to 100 over several years. I live in Va, and think the most I have ever paid was $35, and that was to Ca. That is shipping with insurance. Now, I have always supplied the box, and packing. I can see how that would add a bit to the costs, if going with a packing company. But, when I see guys charging over $50 for shipping, I cringe, without knowing all the facts.
atquinn Posted May 25, 2005 Posted May 25, 2005 $70 if you're having someone else pack it and ship it doesn't seem bad at all. I always figure out what I willing to pay for an item on ebay including shipping and then I just adjust my max bid accordingly based on what they're charging. -Austin
tafkathundernotes Posted May 25, 2005 Posted May 25, 2005 I shipped a Vanguard from New Hampshire to Seattle, WA overnight by USPS / with insurance. I think the total was around $66. It arrived 16 hours after I dropped it off.
serial Posted May 26, 2005 Posted May 26, 2005 If you take it to MBE or something like that, they'll rip you a new one. I made that mistake ONCE. My own box, mostly my own packing materials. They tossed in a few cubic inches of peanuts on the top and taped it. $9.95 for "packing materials?". That was out of a total of $68.00.I ship directly from the depot UPS. If they accept it there, they are on the hook no questions, unlike MBE who will blame you and since they aren't "really" UPS (even though they're now called the "UPS Store"). I've spent a bunch on oversized boxes for basses and Standards across country that have been $50+, but insurance has never run me more than a couple of bucks even to insure something for several thousand $$.
