FrankieIII Posted November 18, 2009 Posted November 18, 2009 Dug this special Special out of storage to share. All original except strap buttons and right-handed nut conversion. This is the heaviest/heftiest '80s Special/Sunburst I've ever held. Feels like a '70s LP Custom. Very ballsy tone from this one. Bridge removed to show how green finish has faded over the beautiful curly late '50s Gibson-like flame:
GusS Posted November 18, 2009 Posted November 18, 2009 the green finish just wore off/vanished off the top?! how is this possible?off the entire guitar, rather
marcnorth Posted November 18, 2009 Posted November 18, 2009 I'll bet that foam in the bottom of the pickup cavities is a crumbling mess too.
FrankieIII Posted November 18, 2009 Author Posted November 18, 2009 The sun and fluorescent lights are notorious for releasing harmful UV rays that fade vintage nitrocellulose dyes/finishes....
adgc Posted November 18, 2009 Posted November 18, 2009 So what's the plan? Continue doing the "right thing"?
HAMERMAN Posted November 18, 2009 Posted November 18, 2009 So what's the plan? Continue doing the "right thing"?Oh the humanity! The thought of losing another lefty to the dark side saddens me. :-(
GusS Posted November 18, 2009 Posted November 18, 2009 The sun and fluorescent lights are notorious for releasing harmful UV rays that fade vintage nitrocellulose dyes/finishes....i've never seen that before, it's pretty cool. all the beat up old nitro guitars i've had were checked and yellowed.
FrankieIII Posted November 18, 2009 Author Posted November 18, 2009 Okay, I wasn't thinking to sell this one, but after numerous inquiries to do so, I'll listen to offers.Thanks,Frankorangetan1@sbcglobal.net
Jason01 Posted November 19, 2009 Posted November 19, 2009 Its cool! Unfortunately I'm still broke (and I've run out of right handed guitars to trade) . I've seen a few strats that faded out a color entirely like that (I remember a 3 tone burst that completely faded out the red to a two tone burst except under the pickguard). I've never seen a Hamer fade out that bad but for how uniform it is I wouldn't even mess with it, it looks great!
lesterpaul Posted November 19, 2009 Posted November 19, 2009 yes, cool!and I am broke,too..and the ol' lady just got laid off,otherwise.....I remember one of the coolest LP's I ever saw was one that was a blue custom job..the laquer yellowed and the yellow with the blue underneath yeilded a greentop...groovy!but a righty, no less
