If that were true, the headstocks would say "Dantzig". There was a guy named.....uh...oh,yeah.... Paul Hamer that started the company. True, but both were their from day one no? Both friends starting out on a small business adventure. I would see the choice of using Hamer on the headstock as 1 of 2 reasons. Logical on what sounds best or better, and maybe who actually ponied up the most cash. I'm not sure. If anyone actually know? I for one would be interested in hearing the story.

Supply and Demand of the masses is whats keeping whats on the walls consistant. Kids still say...........Fender Stratocaster, just a fact of life. Its pretty fortunate that you could buy whatever your heart desires still. You want Boomers? Why can't you have them? If you want a Thunderchief? Friend of mine just sold his for $800. Why can't you have it? Guild? On Ebay as we speak from Westerly RI RARE Emerald Green 69 Strafire V MINT for $2700.? Honestly I rarely think about electrics from the 50's and 60's. I never regret not keeping them. I'm very happy with what I play today. I do often think back and exaggerate the quality of the pick-ups from then. I get caught up in that to this day. My current GAS is for a set of TV Jones Supertrons, and to just play an original set of Humbuckers out of a late 60's Guild. I really don't want the Guild. I dig my Newport way to much. My current pet peave is thinking I missed the boat buying 335s instead of Guilds back in the day. I got into a conversation about humbuckers and a couple players I've spoke with insist the Guilds were hotter and clearer than the original PAFs. I remember them having less output with no midrange and a decent clean tone? If what they say is True? I may have look around for a set because it sounds like exactly what I like. New guitars for me? I bought a CARVIN. On its way as we speak. I been thinking about the freaking things since 2000, and keep buying Hamers and Fenders. Will I like them? Were gonna find out real soon. I do like Trems on Strat style double cuts, I grew up playing them so a DC-127 was a easy choice for me. Especially with these appointments. But it seems to me that they are much more prevalent on the West Coast than here in New-England. Mind you the ones I've come across are not bad guitars. Just always someting I wouldn't play. Too 80's looking with pointed headstocks or something that just isn't me. This one caught my attention. But I've played to many guitars to know that the quality of pick-ups out here NOW, are every bit as good if not better than the 50's and 60's. As far as Jol? Seriously now, what could you possibly say about a guy who started Hamer from NOTHING. And took it into 2010? Pretty remarkable and the more you look at it the more remarkable it becomes. Mistakes.....Hindsight is always 20-20. I'm positive there are things all us would like to have a mulligan on? Unfortunatly while that applys to Golf its rarely applied in real life. Some of the Hamers I've seriously liked and have been dropped? The Mirage II, Daytona and T-51 and T-62. Hey they could be had today for less than a MIM Strat? I especially liked Terry McInturffs designs and do till this day. I still have a Mirage II I dig. While I don't play a Daytona or T-51? I honestly prefer Fender to them. Simply because of the neck profiles. IMHO that was just a smart move to stay clear of the Fender designs. And the Mirage II? Well thats just a design that reminds me of other similar designs like PRS. I just like the Fender scale with a LP style DC. IMO if it had Inlays and Binding? Would have been much more successfull. Even just Natural Body Binding and Crown inalys would have made a hugh difference in the success of that guitar. But hey it is what it is! Honestly I don't see Hamer going quietly into the night. Long as players have good sense they'll be playing Hamers. Those that haven't picked one up yet? They will, And they'll tell others.
-
I looked for a Guild Starfire IV 5-6mths ago on the Fender sight. You couldn't even buy one from them then. Tough Times, everyone is feeling this.

Looks like Mercyful Fate is gonna be the next unless theirs a drastic change in the voting.

Hard NOT to like that SP. But I have a feeling the M-III is gonna be more to "my" liking. Dave, that Quilt Blue is a KILLER axe though. I could see where you would order "want" a blended heel. I can't tell you how much the Victory Inlays have grown on me. I actually was skeptcal about them at first and avoided them. Now...I think they are cats Butt and prefer them to EVERYTHING. Thats my case in point right there. Our thinking changes as we change. And as we change out likes and dislikes in guitars change. I FULLY understand your SP/Newport dilemma. I have been around this Circle a FEW times now. And every time I go the LP-Style electric I GAS for and miss the Semi's and Hollows. But at this time and age? I also know me pretty well now. And while many prefer the SP? I seriously dig the Newports. I just lean more in that direction. But I don't play a Spuce Top Newport? Which has me thinking Monaco III also. Dave as you can see, I'm still indecisive about the guitar? Not Good. SETHs are a love/hate thing. many feel they are gonna like a early PAF Tone till they get their. Then they realize they don't particularly care for it. Many will tell you .....they Suck? Thats simply not True. Better to say its not your style or to your liking. Some still prefer the later 59 version of the PAF with Alnico V magnets. BUT the Seths in a Maple Body Semi/Hollow? They are like DOPE to me. Very addictive. IMO the Seths sound BEST with a BRIGHT bodied electric. I've played and owned them in Mahogany/Maple Artists and thought they were OK in that situation. I've owned them in Spruce Top Newports and prefer Alnico V magnets their. Personal Choice's my friend. -

Hard not to like that Hamer. Beautiful guitar thats extrememly well thought out. I want a Monaco III done Black/White Tuxedo Dreaming of that Baby. Or a Blue Quilt maple-top? Tough to give up a Newport though. With me its anything but that. But I hear you. -
Looks Nice and broken in. Sweet! Welcome.

I'm GLAD your Happy with it my Friend. Isn't it a Great Feeling to come upon a Great Guitar and with just a bit of Tweaking they become Pure Bliss? Enjoy

Thats the thing with the Seth Lover right their in the nutshell. The Bridge is Great clean and about Pefect. The neck is also a Good pup though it leans a little too far in the style of the period with its Warmth. IMO it either needs to be set slightly back or wound slightly cleaner to open it up with Clarity. But I'll tell you. I like the Seth Lover set More and More as I play them daily. I often think of flipping the neck Seth Lover around for the Hell of it. The bridge and middle position are Perfect on the Newport Pros. And the neck is Damn nice, but not PERFECT. This is also Straight into a Twin Reverb CLEAN. So basically my Beef is with the Neck SETH with 6L6s Clean. But I also have ran the Newport Pro though a AC-30TB. And the Neck Seth in this situation is OFF THE HOOK! Serious if you haven't tried that Tone? man are you in for Treat. Or run the NP through any decent EL-84/EL-34 Tube amp. Then you'll REALLY start thinking.....Man I'm leaving the Seths just as they are. Honestly............I don't even want to change Pick-Up rings at the moment. But you could Tweak the Sh$T out of the neck Seth and get it pretty cleaned up. I spent a bunch of time adjusting Poles and Bass/Treble pick-up ends and got it pretty Sweet. Sometimes you have to say......Hey this is Pretty Fu##King NICE. Let me leave it be NOW! It Feels Good and I'm digging it and creating. Knowing how Hamers QC is, I wouldn't worry about intonation. Now if you said GIBSON? Oh Hell no, I'd have to play it FIRST. I had a LP-DC Studio in Emerald Green back 13 years ago. Great Tone but I had to go with a Leo Quan Bad-Ass on it. Then it was straight. Takes away from the look though? That Stop-Tail Look with just the set-adjusting screws in the Posts? CLASSIC Bro! I just would LOVE to play the two bridges next too each other because of the Tone Freak I am. Both are without a doubt Classic proven designs.
-
Congrads on your purchase. Hey, these are Excellent electrics, nothing but Good Wishs for ya here. I want to know how the two bridges sound in comparison? I'm assuming the Compensated must be pretty damn good if Jol upgraded the Tally with it? I always liked Sustain Blocks, I find "this" difference in the two Tallys fascinating. IMHO the of the appointments are just cosmedic. I hear you with the Dual Knobs also. Without a doubt there are a couple secondary Tones you could cop with Duals that you can't cop with a Master Volume and Tone. But I dig my Newport so much as it is that its a no-issue. What I am getting ready to do with the Newport is change the Controls around. I need the Switch closer than it is and I need the Tone knob closer. The Volume is the one that could be farther away IMO. I'm just not positive if the Switch is gonna go in the first or second position. I'm afraid the switch in the first position may look the best, but I may hit it out of position with my hand? Anyway, I like your Style! Good Luck with your Axe!

I remember we use to swap guitars a LOT back in the day with the bands. That was a very different time. And everyone wanted to play what the next guitarist was playing. At least check it out. I guess some good actually came out of it. I was playing a Gretch Astro-Jet at the time and was a little more interested in the Strats. Nobody seen an Astro-Jet and everyone wanted to check it out. Another player in a band that we would come across often, had a very similar Strat to Hendirix's Woodstock Strat. If I had not played that guitar I wouldn't have gotten into Fenders till much later. I use to also like the Hagstroms back then. So you kinda got yourself familiar with other electrics that way. I realized very early I liked single-coils. And it was years till I went back to humbuckers. Hey man, their wasn't any Guitar Centers or Internet around then? So your guitar knowledge was really limited to what you came in contact with, with bands or the small Ma-Pa shops. But I never "loaned" guitars out for more than a night unless it was someone I knew "very" well. It wasn't hard to tell early on that there are those who really take care of their gear. And those who buy into the road worn theory. I always took very good care of my gear. And though I don't have the Astro-Jet [nor care to] though I wish I had those SuperTrons. I do still have the BandMaster 1/2 stack from back then. I still jam with a friend of mine from back then who still has his 69 SG all original. But in the 70's he got into a fight with his old-lady and she kicked the SG over and broke the headstock? Its very nicely repaired, but still.......how are you gonna explain that to a friend "if" that happened? More so than the guitars back then were the Harley Davidsons. I couldn't tell you how many times my brother or a friend would want to check out my Stroker. My brother was famous for blowing trannys till my father finally had a main machined at the Goverment shop that wouldn't blow. I had another friend who got busted growing weed and did a couple years in the prison here. Anyway he came out for weekend thing.. toward the end of the trip. I know he wanted to ride, and it was nice out, so I gave him the keys. By this time "late 70's", I had a Pan-Shovel Stroker together that the front wheel would come off the ground in 1st 2nd and 3rd. I could tell as soon as he he got on the bike idling, that he was scared of it. It had been some time so I could understand that, and this bike was seriously fast, just idling it vibrated like no stock Harley would because of the cam. Anyway he took the bike for the weekend and came back the next afternoon with it all together but the Gas-Cap missing? Really no big deal, but he was really apologetic and had a great time with it, you could just see it in his face. As good of a time he had, it was also time to take him back? I know that was a serious drag for him, so i kinda felt good that he at least was able to really feel free for at least a few hours. So theres something to be learned through all this? Some are not as fortunate as others or in plain english "sh*t happens" . Really it becomes a personal thing with those you come to know and trust and love. And more so than that you want to help out. because those with no cash.....are "not" gonna be able to repair your gear should something expensive happen! So this is what you have to keep in the back of your mind. But dig this..... I could remember being 14 and my brother running alongside the Sportster teaching me to ride? So how do you repay someone for a experience like that, that you will "never" forget? By telling them "no" you can't ride my bike, play my guitar, or play with my TOYS? Come-On now there's no such thing as NO with people like that. Its not a point of cash or materialistic things at that point. Its given an experienece to someone that you know in your heart would do the same for you or "has" or you teach too do so. So, you know..when you say Brother? Thats what brothers do. Check it out......Grandkids.......1st Halloween. And though early they can't wait to wear the costumes. Bad lighting here but...........

This is what would happen if you needed a fret level. Its not uncommon to have a couple high frets. Good Luck with your fiddle.
-
TR adjustments and Saddles adjustments may resolve the issue. But you have a HIGH fret and you can find it by having your neck as straight as possible then using a straight edge on top of the frets. To find the High fret. You could get away with just crowning the one fret.

Wow ......and there's a left at the light.

His Patent on Electrical conductors is facinating.

IF your dealing with a 1/4 jack for a connecting cable on a DC Circuit, and the same length of cable say 20ft. 1st I'd like to know this. With respect, because we do have a few with Electrical backgrounds here. 1st off "percentage wise" in measuring a cable how good could a 20ft cable be in respect to Effieciency? Now their is no NEC Code for this so safty is not a factor. Therfore you COULD in theory do WHATEVER you want to do to build a Cable. Because really who's say whats Great or Sucks as long as it works? 2nd if I were to use a cable with a 5% lower efficiency rating than the first. Do you think it would make a difference in respect to Tone? Maybe I really ought to pay closer attention to these cables? Christ I won't send my guitars or amps out as it is. I thought maybe I could actually buy a good cable. 3rd When dealing with the NEC you often run into factors like Ampacity and conductors have to be derated etc. We don't have to deal with any of that here . So we could now Enlarge this cable AT WILL, thus making it more insulated? Or enlarge the conductors to a degree thus changing the resistance? Or the physics of the cable mathmatically..if you will? Now even if we were to do ALL THIS? How efficient % wise could a cable be made? I don't know. Now with regards to Tube amplification. Because our CABLE at some point has to go into this freaking DINOSAUR? God the Tube amps are working on what......55% efficiency at BEST? THATS why they are obsolete. But we as musicians actually believe the Harmonics produced by thses beasts make a Tonal difference? [bTW It does] 4th If our Total Circuit is only as efficient as its weakest link?...........Well let me not go to far here. You guys understand what I'm saying. I work as an Electrical Journeyman here in CT, I have a degree and am Lic. in CT as a E-1. Knowing that, then you know I'm restricted by the NEC with everything . Because I work with High Voltage. So theirs no Fuc&^% around. Simply put, you do what the NEC tells you to or work in another field? I like doing what I'm doing so I follow the code. But I know with Electronics? Really your not governed by anyone. Nor are you required to be State by State Lic. Simply because as long as you don't forget to short circuit the Caps. Your not going to deal with a Arc Flash hotter than the Temp on the Sun. You don't have to worry about electrocution Basically. I think were reading way to much into this. These cables can only be so Efficient. And they are going to begin to break down. Unless your at home LIKE ME. Then hell ya you are going to constantly replace these babys. Definatly safe the reciepts. You WILL use them. Have too, they are in constant movment. An Industrial Building will stay intact electrically for 100 years
-
Guitar Player did a charted efficiency Table in one of this past years magazines. But if your playing the best Monster Cable, or Planet Wave's, I can't remember them all. I think Dimarzio was up their. Then they all pretty much topped off at the same Percentage. Nothing was noticably better that I thought I should run out and get one. Not one Directional Cable was in the top % though, they were all around the middle of the chart including Monster Directional cables. So I could say this. I have a few very good Monsters I been using and have one of their Directional Cables. Now I can't tell a different in Tone between my Best Monster cables and the one Directional Monster I have. I could hear a difference between real good cables and real shit cables for sure. So there is a point here where good is good is good is what Im saying.

Sights and sounds of my Monaco SuperPro in action

Chris, it sounds Great man, I Feel it, you close with this cut pretty much on the regular? -
Brass. Steel and Aluminum too....Cool. Thats has to work good. I like the individual channels for the saddle adjustment screws and its thickness.
